Land Transport
Luxor is a small town so most destinations on the East Bank are usually within walking distance.  However, whenever you are hot, tired, or in a hurry you might want to use one of the numerous local transport facilities such as a horse-drawn calleche or a minibus.  Distances are greater outside of Luxor or on the West Bank and you may wish to take a taxi or catch a service car to your destination.  If you are courageous then you might want to rent a vehicle and make your own way about town.

River Transport
The River Nile divides Luxor into the East and West banks and as the majority of the hotels are on the East Bank but most of the archaeological sites are on the West Bank, it is necessary to cross the river either by ferry or by using one of the numerous motor boats that are available.  If you want a lazy day on the river then nothing is more relaxing than sailing along the river in a felucca and then watching the sun set over the Theban Hills.
