Getting Around Egypt
Most of Egypt is empty desert so the majority of towns are near water in the Nile Basin, the Delta, and along the Mediterranean or Red Sea coasts. Reaching them from Luxor is not overly difficult but it can take time and effort to arrange the journey. All the usual methods of transport are available and there are
road
,
rail
, or
air
links from Luxor to all of Egypt.
Egypt's
bus
system is well-developed and it is possible to reach most parts of Egypt using public transport. However, journeying by
road
in a private vehicle or tour bus can mean travelling with a police escorted
convoy
. From Luxor,
trains
only travel in a north/south direction, and although Luxor's new ultra-modern airport is serviced by many charter airlines offering short-term tickets,
Luxor Airport
is only serviced by Egypt Air on scheduled
flights
although this might soon change.
