Favourite International Meals

Do you have a favourite International Cuisine? What's your favourite meal from that country?

If you could design a meal based around your favourite dishes what would they be, and why?

When I lived in Ibiza, I used to eat most Sundays with friends at the restaurant, Es Boldado....set at a remote spot opposite the islet of Es Vedra.

Magical!

Invariably, we'd have paella which I suppose is my favourite dish...accompanied by a chilled white wine. Chicken, chorizo, mussels & prawns....can't beat it!

Have to say that number one for me is a large, thick juicy top quality steak with perfectly fried chips, freshly baked white crusty bread with salted butter, pint of ice cold milk. But a close second is a curry that tastes like a curry should do, not a crappy make do curry. And now I'm salivating all over the keypad.

My favourite is a Full banquet style Chinese meal, preferably Cantonese and in a restaurant where you have to wait a while for it to arrive and have time for a few Tiger beers and a bit of banter.

Plate after plate of shellfish for me, please! I know it's not International but it's so expensive here in the UK and not that plentiful, so I really appreciate it when it's on offer.

An Egyptian friend took me to a fabulous fish restaurant in Hurghada, just across the street from the fish market. It was to die for!! Like Ruby Slippers I love shellfish - we must have eaten a kilo of jumbo prawns between us!! Plus 2 other kinds of fish, don't remember the names but they were delicious. We split the bill and it wasn't expensive, unlike Turkey where you NEVER order fish without agreeing the price

That sounds familiar Newcastle. Not really bothered about alcohol, but I must admit a glass of white wine would have been enjoyable! In Turkey it's usual to drink raki with fish - I like to stick with tradition, so I do too! And I introduced Carrie to its delights when we ate fish here in the harbour in Datca

I just had a look at the link, and yes, that's the restaurant. Looking at the photos made my mouth drool

Sea Food for us, or a nice crisp Mediterranean Salad.

Can't, I'm ether banned for voicing my criticisms too loudly, or they are closed, ie, The Chinese, the Regal lounge, the Oasis, or just not worth bothering with, like Dean's, The Lantern, Aisha, Maxims, seven ways seven days, The Grand, [3 of these are total crap] And until its possible to get the full and correct ingredients to produce foreign foods to taste as they should do, then we will only get a second best at best.

Dusak, it will be interesting to see to see what comments you get for going to the named restaurants. Maybe similar to the comments I got, when talking about some of the Luxor Restaurants. If you get no comments well the paces must have changed in 5 months. I do agree with your statement about obtaining ingredients to make foreign foods. Our big problem was Cardamon Pods. Friends used to bring them in for us. Don't know what would happen now though because haven't I read they are inspecting baggage for goods being brought in? I presume that means foodstuff too.

Never had a problem obtaining Asian food stock/spices myself inc cardamons black or green used Asian food suppliers in Cairo since 2004 or bring from outside Egypt.

It was a tongue in cheek remark numbnuts. But it has to be said that when you had a good supply of spices brought over from The UK, the curry dishes were of a more authentic taste. Not your fault, you can only work with what you can get. I have been in your place three times over the last five months, but you have only been in once while I was there.

Well I thought so because as the amiable person you are I couldn't think of anyone that would ban you!

My favourite is a Bocadillo from Que Tal in Santa Eulalia Ibiza - the best huge crusty roll filled with salad, avocado, egg and lots of smoked salmon with just a little dressing accompanied by the unique in house coffee. (Not one of the usual kinds). The pavement tables are great for the frequent fiestas and people watching in general. Of course it has excellent internet facilities.

The coffee shop is mostly used by locals as it is slightly away from the main tourist area. The staff are quick friendly, remember their regulars and always give a me hug and a free coffee for my first and last visit of my holiday.



The great thing about the town is that it is far away the clubs and drunken hen and stag parties.
