Coffee

Post by Mad Dilys »

I'm sure that many of you are aware of this tip to spice up your coffee but I had forgotten it until the other day.
I drink de-caffienated coffee and it was getting pretty boring so on a whim I put the seeds of a cardamon pod into the next one .............. brilliant result - tastes like real coffee.
I put some in my DH's real coffee and it made him raise his eyebrows and smile.
Give it a try if you haven't already. 8)

Oh no!
We have spent a lot of time working out how not to have the flavour of Cardamon in our coffee....cannot abide the taste :(
We now buy our unground beans from the Turkish Coffee shop in the street behind the Luxor Hotel.
Incidentally, if you buy your coffee ready ground they will add the Cardamon to the mix. That is why we buy unground beans because the Cardamon flavour remains in the grinders.

I do this everynow and then for a change too - especially since we have a cupboard full of the stuff! If you have a cinnamon stick - bob one of those into the filter with the coffee for a bit of a smoother taste.
If you have any other ideas for depleting my cardamom stash, I'd be interested to hear them.

I *love* the cardamom flavoured bon and never thought about adding it to instant coffee - thanks for the tip MD!

Goddess - add a couple of cardamom pods (and a couple of bay leaves) to the pot when boiling meat - infuses the meat beautifully :)
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure...

If you do not even enjoy caffeine, the cardamom must make a difference, I am sure, Mad Dilys! How about a drop of rose water...

I have often used cardamom in coffee (not instant, I think), I even chew the seeds now and then. First tme I was in Africa, I learned that cooking rice with cardamom was not my own invention, and once I visited a Sudanese woman, I found a capsule in my spaghetti and one in the spinach. Her Danish husband laughed and said that she never served any dish without it.

My family hates it, though, but they cannot drink any form of coffee that hasn't simmered the whole day on a coffee maker :( , but a brandy usually helps. Which reminds me that my Mother has invited me for filter coffee, I should be out of here!

See you later!

Well, I'm still here, and pleased to say that the new "Metro" (or whatever it's really called) is stocking "Dilmah". But for how long, I ask myself?

As an ex coffee addict I have to be careful with the real stuff.
Oh, the smell of Jamaican Blue Mountain makes me swoon. :) However for some reason since I had Typhoid some years ago I cannot bear the smell or taste of Typhoo or any other "normal" tea.
I've tried many times, but cannot bring myself to drink it, yet I drank it a lot on a daily basis before.
However, I've tried the new (to me at any rate) Lipton Green Tea and it's fairly drinkable if not steeped for too long.
Until recentlly the choice of tea in Luxor was Lipton or Arosa but now we have at home Lipton, Arosa loose, London, Green and another I can't remember.
I usually drink Anise but I miss my normal cup of tea.

Snap MD. I drink Lipton green tea also.

I love iced coffee in the summer -- hazelnut coffee with a splash of hazelnut creamer.
