Prawns

Post by Goddess »

I've just spent a horrific half hour in the kitchen de-heading, de-shelling and de-veining these nasty things!!! What a horrible task that was! I'm hoping that by the time it comes to eat them - I'll have forgotten all about this! Next time I'm buying those pretty frozen naked ones!

  So true Goddess. Terrible job  but I love them once done. When I was in Australia they saved the biggest (uggliest) prawn for me to put on the barbi  Couldn't eat it of course had to give it away discreetly cos they thought they were treating me  Must have been 6 inches long

These ones were only 5 inches!! I wonder if it's less nasty peeling little ones? Every time I put my hand in the bowl and a feeler tickled me I jumped a mile upwards! Now I know why I always leave this job to Mr G!

I've made prawn bisque for starters - and the rest I'm going to cook in butter with garlic, white wine and parsley and then chuck in some fettuccini near the end. Got fresh garlic bread to go with it. I think I'm looking forward to it now! Got to go and finish it off. ;)

It should be banned!!! Talking about anything we can't get here in Luxor :x
Now I'm hungry and nothing can satisfy me because we do not have fresh prawns here. You are a cruel woman Goddess!

Has anybody try those frozen prawns from Omar's? I can't make myself buy those because smell next to a freezer is so disgusting. Maybe it's just the freezer and those prawns are okay.

Ahhhh! You got me there BB!!!

But when either of us do cook - we do tend to go all overboard on it! That's why we don't cook much because it turns into a marathon event! Involving a full table setting for multiple courses and napkins. Even worse is when we invite people over - then it turns into a 4 course extravaganza including appetizers. We both love cooking so much that we often go over to friends houses and cook there for a change! Oh the woes of being married to a chef! ;)

And Warda - I've smelt the small in Omars - I'd like to think it doesn't come from the freezer cabinets - but who knows. I don't think you'd even be able to check unless you bought them, took them home and defrosted them and then gave them a thorough inspection!

And just as an addition - the meal was superb! 8)

Occasionally Omar has those boxes of Red Sea Shrimps that are far better than the ones in the see through bags. They are exellent.

I wonder how many of us reading this yesterday suddenly got a craving for prawns  I know I did and like Horus I hunted in the freezer but nothing 'prawny'
Tomorrow I am going to have a 'something and prawn' though :) :) :)
