What's a sticky?

It's used on a post or thread so that admin can 'stick' it to the top of a forum. This means that it does not slip down the pile as more threads come along.
I think on some internet sites they may be referred to as pins too.

Is that was PINTEREST is? Seems a new phenomenon to hit the Web and I've even been invited on some website to PIN it but never clicked further as I wasn't sure how to gracious back out.

I actually haven't got a clue. I see odd bits (by default) that people have put on it but I've not looked at it myself to know really what it is, why it is and how it works. The only thing I can liken it to - and I could be very wrong here - is the internet equivalent to a notice board (or fridge door) where you 'pin' photo's, the children's drawings, recipes etc.
