I see the rate for Egyptian pound has topped the 70LE to the English pound.
Today's rate for GBP to EGP
1 GBP = 70.417 EGP

Re: Currency exchange
That should go much higher over the next few days being that stock markets are falling throughout the world as a result of the present war in the Middle East, therefore cash is looking for safe banks, and the Egyptian LE is not one of them.

Re: Currency exchange
This may be a good time to stock up on LE if you are out there now and the exchange rate gets you a few more LE.
If it hits 75 or 80, and it gets back to about 60 by next year then you could make maybe between 25 and 33%

Don't look back. That's not the direction you are travelling towards.

Re: Currency exchange
Not so sure about that John, Egypt inflation is running at about 13%, there seems to be a oil crisis domestically, add to that nothing going through the Suez Canal, which is an important cash cow for the government exchequer. If the present Iran war continues, this would certainly effect tourism.John Landon wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2026 9:02 pm This may be a good time to stock up on LE if you are out there now and the exchange rate gets you a few more LE.

Currency speculation is never easy, especially in third world countries.

Re: Currency exchange
Damn, my plans for untold riches scuppered again.
I do actually hope for the people's sake that the LE will recover.
I like many others can remeber the days of 10LE or even slightly less to the UK pound.
Anyhow, back to the drawing board to hatch another cunning plan to increase the family fortunes.

Re: Currency exchange
The wife has signed us up for one of those Viking river cruises along the Rhine, and I got quite excited.
I did a quick AI search and it returned the following.
"Yes, many villages and towns along the Rhine River are prosperous, driven by a combination of rich historical trade"
But I have cancelled it, as it seems we don't get to loot the local villages and monastaries along the way.
