Just had the latest UK Government travel advice for Egypt.
One paragraph states:
"on arrival in Egypt – approved airports have kiosks before you reach the immigration counters where you can buy a visa for 30 US dollars (cash only – Egyptian officials prefer dollars, but you may be able to pay in British pounds or euros). Visas on arrival are valid for up to 30 days."
Another paragraph states:
"You do not need to buy a visa from an agent. Agents often charge more than the required 25 US dollars. If an agent harasses you, report the incident to the tourist police in the airport terminal."
This is confusing!!

Re: Visa Cost
I seem to think I have read recently that the visa cost has gone up. Looks like the UK Gov have updated one part but not the other bit.
(Maybe other things on their mind. LOL!)

Re: Visa Cost
Now more 2 dollars a day per person for a 2 week stay.
4 dollars for 1 week.
I remember when the visa lasted for 3 months.

Re: Visa Cost
Agents have always charged more to the innocent tourists who don’t know any better. Not to mention the phone scams outside the arrivals hall offering ridiculous charges for local SIM cards.

Re: Visa Cost
I wonder if they’re giving free visas for direct flights to Luxor like they did last year. Raising visa costs won’t help tourism especially at a time like this.

Re: Visa Cost
If I recall correctly, when the tourist season ends in about May, over the last couple of years, visits to Luxor did not require a visa from May to about October.crewmeal wrote: Fri Mar 06, 2026 6:17 pm I wonder if they’re giving free visas for direct flights to Luxor like they did last year. Someone I know winters out in Luxor and slips in just before that offer ends, and stays until March. He's over 65, but as far as I know hasn't paid a visa fee for the last couple of years.
We paid 25 dollars each in December.
Turkey dropped the visa fee to entice people back post Covid, and they have not yet re introduced it. It certainly helped thier tourist numbers, post covid, the areas we visited saw a massive upturn in tourist numbers, which was immidiatly obvious.
