Taxi fares?
I've just read elsewhere that the taxi fare from the airport to a Nile cruise is 959 EGP. Is that a 'normal' sort of price nowadays?

Re: Taxi fares?
Seems a bit steep. That's the best part of 15 English pounds.
I hired my driver for the whole day for about 16 English back in February, and he took us to over to the WB and drive us around there and then back to the jolie ville for that price.
I'll message him and see what price he wants for the Jolie Ville in December and get back to you @Teddyboy

Don't look back. That's not the direction you are travelling towards.

Re: Taxi fares?
Thanks, John. I'm not averse to paying a little over the odds, but don't want to be taken to the cleaners! It's just that my carer is wondering if we should pay a visit next year. I think we're both missing Luxor's heat and smells since we sold up there last year.

Re: Taxi fares?
Hosni is telling me, "no price, no price.
You are good customer, pay me what you want to."
Obviously he is happy knowing he got some guaranteed fares for a couple of weeks and he probably would take nothing. However,
After a bit of too and fro WhatsApp chats he is happy with 400.
My own research seems to agree with that figure, if not a little less. Around 350 into the city centre.
As a general enquiry to anyone in the know,
Do I need to send him anything that will allow him to enter the airport,? As I had heard that they were only allowing taxis to enter the airport if they had a definate booking? Thanks in advance.

"pay me what you want to"
Or.......he's using the old ploy of expecting the customer to pay, roughly, what he would expect to pay in his own country? Not using taxis in England, I've no idea what the fares are like, but I expect that they are several times more than they are in Luxor!

Re: Taxi fares?
Well, you have your ball park figure of 350 to 400 LE, which works out a tad more than we were paying 10 years ago, so not too bad.
I have on occasion needed to use a taxi in the UK, but only for short rides, such as when my car goes into the garage, and I pay about 7 quid for a 6 mile journey down the by pass to my village.
However we get a good deal from our local taxi firm to the airport and back, which is cheaper then using the meet and greet parking at the airport.
I'll pick up about 1000 LE to take with me, then change my English money at the bank, or the ATM by the Winter palace.

Re: Taxi fares?
The last time I was in Luxor was in the early part of this year, the exchange rate I notice is almost the same today, so I don't see any problem with present day taxi fares.
First, Teddyboy's initial question here asks the price for taxi to the cruise boats, which I assume he means the ones near the South bridge, if this is so, then a taxi should take the quick route. Instead of turning right at the main road after exiting the airport, it should turn left, this road goes directly to the bridge, where most boats are berthed. The distance is almost the same, as the distance as airport to Luxor town centre, so the price should be the same.
Up until very recently, I have travelled quite a lot, and pleased to say this has now been cut, having said that, I always carry U.S. $'s, and I pay $10 for a taxi into Luxor, inc tip. This is about the same price as John above has suggested.
With regard what I pay for a taxi in the U.K. and that which I pay in Egypt, has no relevance, the price of petrol in Britain, I understand is around £1-35, even with recent rampant inflation in Egypt, it's still a fraction of the price here in the U.K.
