I have just received the following UK Government Travel Advice for Egypt:
"Return tickets
The Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority has directed all airlines and travel companies to ensure that any passengers arriving in Egypt between 12 and 16 June have a confirmed return ticket. Travelers who are unable to demonstrate this are liable to be refused entry into the country"
Anyone know why?

Re: UK Government Travel Advice
Is this possibly something to do with Israel and Iran? What happens after June 16th? Also what happens to those returning on long term visas who probably won’t have a return ticket?

Re: UK Government Travel Advice
I've just been catching up with my emails and puzzling over those dates. I wondered if it was dates that lined up with the end of the winter flight schedule, making sure that those who flew in had a means of flying back out again.Chris wrote: Fri Jun 13, 2025 12:16 pm I have just received the following UK Government Travel Advice for Egypt:

(Thinking out loud...) I don't think it's related to Israel, although the Egyptian government may want to make sure all holiday makers have a means of getting home pdq, and already paid for, if the flood gates of Raffa are opened.
FYI ... if anyone is planning to go to Morocco...I also had an update from Gov.UK regarding Morocco:
Safety and security
Terrorism
There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets. Stay aware of your surroundings at all times.
UK Counter Terrorism Policing has information and advice on staying safe abroad and what to do in the event of a terrorist attack. Find out how to reduce your risk from terrorism while abroad.
Terrorism in Morocco
Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Morocco.

We have just been sent these words from Mohammed, in one of the villages we visit.
Currently 1000 gates have been locked throughout the West Bank.
Here are Mohammed's words....
We, the residents of Al-Ma’sara village in the south of the West Bank, are currently living under a suffocating siege imposed by the Israeli occupation since yesterday, following the escalation in the region after Israel’s attack on Iran.
During the night, the Israeli army declared the entire West Bank a closed military zone and sealed all iron gates that separate our villages from one another. As a result, our communities are now completely cut off. There is no way in or out. We are trapped in our own village, as if in a vast open-air prison—open to fear, but closed to life.
The occupation has isolated us from the outside world and brought our daily lives to a halt. We do not know what will happen tomorrow, or how long this closure will last. We are living in a state of constant anxiety and uncertainty, with no answer to a simple question: Until when?
This is not a life. This is a silent attempt to suffocate us, away from the media and far from justice. We call upon anyone who still holds humanity in their heart to hear our voices, to see our suffering, and to help us carry our message.
Here in Al-Ma’sara, we ask for nothing more than our most basic right: the right to live.

The dates are likely relevant in relation to the March for Gaza.
Which no doubt is also relevant to Israel isolating the West Bank (even further) by locking down all the entrance and exit routes.

Just received the following from HM Government:
Egypt travel advice
Change made:
Due to ongoing developments in connection with the Global March on Gaza, travellers will want to review existing advice in the section on Safety and Security. We advise against all travel towards North Sinai

"It wouldn't surprise me to see a No Go Area announced for Egypt quite soon, considering the way Israel is behaving."
Do you think that Israel may have some sort of ambition towards Egypt? I'd be utterly astonished!

It feels like Israel's ambition is to obliterate anywhere it's missiles will land at the moment!Teddyboy wrote: Sat Jun 14, 2025 4:40 pm "It wouldn't surprise me to see a No Go Area announced for Egypt quite soon, considering the way Israel is behaving."

I do think that the Raffa area is particularly vulnerable at the moment. Hmm, not vulnerable exactly, poor choice of word perhaps, but for want of a better expression or choice of words, in an somewhat awkward and tense situation. Surely Israel would like to push the last surviving Palestinians (if it allows survivors and each that goes by there are fewer) over to Egypt. Egypt can't cope with more refugees.

Re: UK Government Travel Advice
To think of it, if Israel hadn’t stolen (stealing) Palestinian land since the 60’s, along with the mad mullahs of Iran the region would be a safe place instead of all this destruction and loss of life. All we need now is Trump to rattle his cage and threaten further loss of life and decimation.
I remember flying in and out of Tehran back in the 70’s whilst the Shah was ruling and what great country it was.
Now I read that an Emirates Boeing 777 is stuck in the main airport in Tehran, hopefully the Israelis won’t destroy it unlike the the BA 747 in Kuwait which to this day was mysteriously blown up by persons unknown.

Re: UK Government Travel Advice
I have always wanted to visit Iran, but alas the timing has never been right: no money/no time/ill health/no go zone/war...you name it, I've been stopped by one thing or another every time I've started planning. I did get as far as looking into the visa requirements. ...crewmeal wrote: Sun Jun 15, 2025 3:38 pm
