Carrie
It’s a year today since Carries funeral. She rests in the Coptic cemetery in the desert, not far from her old friend Stan. She used to walk out there now and then, take a can of lager and pour it over his grave as a libation. She loved the desert, so I think, and hope, that she’s at peace. One of her favourite places in Datca was the harbour - I’ll go to her favourite bar (where she only ever drank tea, to the owners amusement) and raise a glass to her. Perhaps those of her friends in Luxor might do the same?

I know another 1 or 2 people who take a Stella out for Stans grave. He may not have achieved a halo yet but i bet he's got a big smile on his face!

Re: Carrie
I have to say that I'm intrigued by the fact that Carrie's remains are in a Coptic cemetery, when you told us that the was Muslim. Was this her expressed wish?

Re: Carrie
Although it was stated, at my request, at the court hearing that she was Muslim, the judge ruled there was no evidence of this. She took instruction from the Sheik when she first moved to Egypt many years ago, but of course no one at the hearing knew this. The judge ordered her burial in the Coptic cemetery.

Re: Carrie
Thanks for straightening that out, Yildez. It's just as well that the Christian community was a bit more welcoming! 'People of the Book', it goes to show, eh?

Re: Carrie
Nothing to do with the community, Christian or Muslim, just the usual bureaucratic nonsense.

Re: Carrie
That'll be right, stamped sealed and delivered! How many of those huge ledgers is she entered into, I wonder? I expect that all the fuss would have given her a bit of a laugh, anyway.
