Today is Carries birthday, and the anniversary of her death 1 year ago. I still find it difficult to accept that she’s gone, I think of her at some point most days. I’m of the age when deaths of those close to me are more likely to occur than marriages or births, but it doesn’t make it easier to accept.
The pain of loss is less raw than it was, but not diminished. I have few really close friends, Carrie was one of them. Straightforward, loyal and with a dry sense of humour, we shared interests in books, in history and Egyptology. I still read things and think ‘must tell Carrie!’
Unlike me Carrie had a strong religious conviction, she was Muslim, and believed in an afterlife. I like to think of her celebrating there, with her favourite foods - fish finger sandwiches, steak and kidney pie, and chocolate cake. And I can imagine her response if offered a glass of celebratory champagne - “ bugger that, I’d sooner have a nice cup of tea! With milk, cold milk!”
Carrie, dearest friend, gone but never forgotten. RIP.

Re: Remembering Carrie
If and when I am able to visit Luxor I will certainly miss meeting up with Carrie. Wonderful person and I always looked forward to regular meetings in the Sindbad restuarant. The last time I was there we met up at the agricultural garden where we spend about an hour before having a walk in Medina Street. It came as a complete shock to me when someone posted the news that Carrie had died because I was only talking to her 2 days before she died. She posted that she had to return home with only half the intended shopping items. She said she did not feel good and by that remark I thought that she did not feel good was because she would have to try again to get what she wanted. If she had said she felt unwell I would have told her to get to a doctor straight away. Also a person who will be missed is the very funny Bobby. It was a laugh a minute with Bobby. So RIP Carrie and Bobby.

Re: Remembering Carrie
This is the only problem with not partaking in the forum much now, plus not going out and seeing folk on the streets for a chat. So I've only just discovered that a long time friend and fellow conspiracy theorist has passed. Really sad news as Carrie and myself used to send each other countless PM's on our true thoughts concerning some posts lol. A really nice lady, one of the few that has stood the test of time here. Kaliea is always telling me that I should keep in contact with my friends, but life moves on and I've so many new friends in Thailand now that all my chat time seems to be taken up with them. Hope I do not upset anyone by asking, but what was the cause of her death as when we did happen to meet each other by chance she always seemed to be fit and healthy. Sadly missed, R.I.P Carrie.

Re: Remembering Carrie
As far as I know there was no post mortem, so I can’t be sure, but judging from what Carrie told me about how she was feeling in the week before her death, I think she had either a heart attack or a stroke.

Re: Remembering Carrie
It was so unexpected. I feel for you, Yildez, not everyone gets to experience such a strong friendship. I am sure that you carry some precious memories, though the pain is still there.
I am sitting under the full moon in the middle of night, looking at Habu, sending my thoughts to you and Carrie.

Re: Remembering Carrie
Thanks Bennu, yes, the moon was beautiful last night in Datca too. I remember going with Carrie to the Ladies Full Moon dinners a couple of times, did you go to them? I still think of her, still miss her, always will
