Do you also find that taxi drivers are some of the most interesting people you can meet? On a short drive for my last appt at the beauty salon before returning to Luxor, I got chatting to the driver, and told him of my worries about getting back to Egypt (and even my hotel in London) with all the disruptions. He said he'd never been to Egypt but had been to several other places in Africa. "Where ?" I asked. So he listed Rwanda, Nigeria, Zaire, Angola amongst others. They definitely weren't on my bucket list of places to visit when I win the lottery so asked him why those places in particular. Apparently In his earlier days he was in the RAF and they discovered he was a particularly good sharpshooter with rifles, so he was sent out to Africa to assist local rangers in the fight against poachers of the endangered wildlife. I was delighted to hear he'd killed several of the ********, and trained up enough of the local rangers to carry on the fight.
I hope my next taxi drive is as interesting as this one but I doubt it.
