Queen has died.

It has just been announced that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died this afternoon at Balmoral.

For anyone that caught any news from lunchtime onwards today you are probably not surprised, but it is still very sad news.

She remained true to the commitment she made when she became Queen and served the country to the end of her life.

The crown now passes to Prince Charles who will become King with Camilla as Queen Consort.

Is anyone aware of a way of watching the Queens funeral live, in Luxor? It's something that I'd hate to miss!

If the sky news app works on your smartphone in Egypt, besides the news there is a live button where you can watch sky news live providing you have Internet @hatusu

@Teddyboy if you have a newish smart TV the sky news app might be available on your TV, if not you can cast your smartphones screen to the TV, but again you need wifi or data.

Keefy, I thought you realised that we are poor folk; we don't have a TV at all, here in Egypt. Mind you, we do have Wi-fi and a laptop; perhaps we'll find some help there. Or (fingers crossed) one of the bigger hotels here on the East might put it on a big screen as a kindly gesture towards their British guests, and we can sneak in?
We live in hope!

Teddyboy, have you enquired at the Gaddis Hotel? I would imagine that if any hotel is going to screen the funeral it would be that one.

Edit: I've just checked the hotel's facebook page but it hasn't been updated for a long time.
I would have thought the Queen's funeral would be an ideal occasion for them to chill the beer, put on the kettle, and stock up on the ham butties. :D

As HEPZIBAH says I would have thought that if there was any where in Luxor who would show the funeral it would be the Gaddis Hotel. After all Mr Gaddis used to be the British Ambassador in Egypt many years ago. At least I think I am correct but age plays many tricks.

Correction Mr Gaddis was the Honorary British Council for Luxor in 1997. And he has been awarded an MBE for services to British people living in Egypt. So on that basis I would definitely think that Mr Gaddis will have the means to show the funeral.

I hadn't given old Gaddis a thought! Maybe I'll make enquiries there. Thanks for the suggestion.

If you want to watch Sky from Luxor you'll need to go through a VPN otherwise it won't work. I used a free one called Proton for my visit via WE Egyptian Telecom. It worked well.

What was the outcome?
Hope you've found some method of watching today's proceedings.

Stupid me, all I had to do was look on the laptop, it was available everywhere! Spent most of the day watching it and lazing around. Should have been working, but tomorrow is another day!
The funeral itself was a bit of a disappointment; sadly Anglicans cannot do good funerals! But the pageantry was tremendous!
The poor King, having to march all that way without the support of his life-long love beside him, he's no chicken you know! I felt heart sorry for him and the rest of his family. They were all splendid in executing their duty to their beloved mother.
God bless the King!

Glad you got to see it.

We, indeed, the world, have seen pomp and ceremony on a scale I doubt will ever be seen again.

Well, that was pretty amazing...
bit speechless all in all. As my mate downstairs said "No one does it quite like the British"

Made me think a lot, thinking god they look old..
Great archive footage about our short 350 year Empire but as Empires go we left a pretty good legacy.

And the Beeb did a totally amazing job... 8)

Ps: and I got to solve how the sceptre and orb was secured and I always thought St George's chapel was small...

Agree, the whole pomp and ceremony, at such a sad time, has been amazing throughout.
The years of planning and organisation, with up-to-date tweaks paid off in full.

It was obvious that the sceptre and orb had to be secured, and yet I was still concerned all the time for them imagining them wobbling off. What I hadn't realised was that the crown too was screwed onto the cushion. The illusion worked on me, even if my common-sense brain kept arguing.
