In a mad mood once, I got a black cab from Theifrow [sic] to Clerkenwell, it was £20 quid before he got to the M4.

For the next hour, We had a right old chat about taxis' across egypt...and their running costs.

Only 17 miles to my door he (his meter) charged me £65 quid inc discount for an ex mini-cab driver.

The chat was good fun but still a right 'cockney rip off..... 8)

Ps: Parkward Cars Paddington Heathrow a speciality £35 quid 35 minutes flat.
All our drivers are uniformed capped chauffeurs.'sort of' c 1990
Ps; I could do 4 pickups before noon sometimes blagging a return customer on Sunday mornings.
The 'old bill gave up chasing all the cabs down the M4, too fast and to many!

The flight to Luxor is cheaper than that!! And no I'm not taking it - Im making further enquiries.......
I must admit the quote you was given did give me a little worry, and therefore yesterday I made a few enquirers. The quote was more than possibly right with regards for a typical London black cab for that journey, when you discover that there is to be major road works on the A4 and M4 towards Heathrow. This work has already begun, and will continue until the end of the year. Most of the very serious work is being carried out at week-ends. However, anyone who knows this road will realise, there is never a quiet moment along it, ask anyone who lives along the Comwell Road.

My best advise is to get a fixed price from a Kings X mini-cab company as soon as possible. Delay times on your route could be horrendous.

For further information to help you plan your journey including the full list of closures and when they will happen visit. tfl.gov.uk/great-west-road-works,.......good luck.

I THINK I've got it sorted now. My niece lives in London and she has an Uber account. She has volunteered to meet me off the train and put me in an Uber taxi.

That's good. How does the price compare to the one you had been quoted?

That sounds more reasonable.
Hope it all works out for you.

Just arrived at the airport hotel ready for my flight tomorrow. If you remember at the beginning g of this thread I was quoted £253 for a taxi journey from Kings Cross to the Ibis Airport Hotel. My niece met me at Kings Cross and used her Uber account for me - cost £34.42...................
.But even better news - I've just had an email from a Mr (Mrs?) Mlgorzata Fajt informing me I've just won a Million Euros. I've just got to get in touch and confirm some details with him/her ( possibly my bank details??)
