Interesting article about the ethics of using Egypt’s historic monuments as a party venue or backdrop for rock bands.
“ Neon lights bring alive the eyes of statues, and the opaque shadow of a column falls over the dancefloor. It’s a grand sight, perhaps for all the wrong reasons: drinks are half-melted at the base of a limestone ram, a bored child picks their nail into the crevices of an already worn set of hieroglyphs, and a once grand place of worship is reduced to little more than a glorified rave site.”

Re: Party venue extraordinaire!
I too find this distasteful, but it's really no different to the many Christian places of worship which have been, and are, used as entertainment venues. At least worship of the "old gods" of Egyptian antiquity, and resulting reverence of their temples, is no longer practised.
Or is it????
Come to think of it, is the Egyptological removing of mummies from their final resting places, and then displaying them to the ever hungry gaze and fumblings of "science", really anything more than simple grave robbing to satisfy the cravings of the current, egged on by Hollywood, ghoulish generation? And both for, ultimately, monetary gain?

Hardly new news!
"I didn’t imagine there would come a day when renting out a temple was a viable option - when Egyptian heritage sites became party venues for the brutally affluent."
It's been an earner for years since Victorian Days, I went to one one evening in the Temple great fun..

That thought occurred to me when watching the goings on in the Saquara necropolis.Teddyboy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 02, 2022 2:04 pm I too find this distasteful, but it's really no different to the many Christian places of worship which have been, and are, used as entertainment venues. They’re rooting through the graveyard on an industrial scale….for what? Mummies of minor functionaries which add very little, if anything, to our knowledge of ancient Egypt. There’s little to no prospect of unearthing a royal treasure here.
And the world’s museums are already stuffed to the gunnels with wooden coffins. Little seems to be being done with regard to intensive examination of the mummies themselves…which might reveal some information on diseases etc affecting the Egyptians.
It seems to be mass exhumation for the sake of it. Apart from the work ( poorly paid I imagine) it generates…what’s the point?

Re: Party venue extraordinaire!
I am sure many will remember about 20 years, the huge evening event that was held in Luxor Temple to welcome tourist companies from around the world, three course meal, wine, music and a tremendous fire works display. Several special evening events, similar were also held in the Mortuary Temple of Ram III, while I lived on the West Bank.Who2 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 02, 2022 5:55 pm Hardly new news!

Once while I was staying in Asswan, there was such an event on Eliphantine at Khnum Temple, I came across some very smart dressed Europeans who thought it was near the city centre. I explained that they had got mixed up with Khnum 2. (This is a rather secret temple, similar to Essna, though rather more deeper down, and no steps). I escorted these people to the right place over the river, and got my self invited to the event,.........disappointment though,.......Obolisk, no Omar, good food though.
