Every now and again I pop down the market.
It's a great fun place to buy cheap meats.
Years ago one would spot impoverished mothers picking up discarded offcuts.
Today, I spotted the porters dumping vacuum sealed joints in rubbish skips.
Some things never change, if your starving and have kids to feed ? try Smithfields, 'early any morning.
Today, 3 kilo middle cut gammon joint only £12 quid.....
Ps: They still hold the Xmas Eve poultry auction at Harts' as they have done
for hundreds of years...
Early one Morning...

Re: Early one Morning...
Ps: Upon second thoughts! the porters might just be 'nicking them.
My Uncle Fred was a porter there once, and a pretty fair boxer.
Uncle Fred, after he stopped being a porter...
I had this pretty cool warehouse in Charterhouse St for a couple of years,
in the basement was The Slaughterhouse Gallery.....
I used to sit right up top there, in the evening and look down upon John Tarode's 'top floor posh
'al fresco balcony 'Smiths of Smithfield restaurant,
Sometimes, I used to taunt him from above on a cool summers evening.
The floors went down 5 levels below ground to the open tube,
making it 9 levels up to our Captain's Table.
One never got drunk up there, mind you it was one 'helluva view....
