Switzerland to add Egypt to the quarantine list

Not good news:

"A number of popular holiday destinations including Mexico and Egypt will be added to Switzerland’s mandatory quarantine list.

In addition to Mexico and Egypt, Qatar and the Cape Verde Islands will also be added.

The new additions will be made on May 3rd. Up until then, arrivals from these countries will not be forced to quarantine.

The Maldives, another popular holiday destination, will be removed from the list on May 3rd.

Switzerland frequently adds and subtracts countries from the list on the basis of infection rates.

While in some cases, a new addition will be announced with immediate effect, in other cases countries are added to the list several days after the announcement.

I doubt Egypt will hit the “red” list unless a new variant is detected.

As they do little in the way of genomic testing, this is unlikely. It appears the UK red list is for countries where the virus is rampaging.

But, as you say, the position could change quickly. Bad news if it does for the deluge of tourists expected when the embargo is lifted...probably 17 May.

I think most people anticipate “ amber “ but a few optimistic souls are hoping for “green”. In your dreams!

I see the Russians are resuming flights to Sharm and Hurghada .

Like normal, I reckon Egypt is in denial in more in more ways than one.
But then so was India, no Country will be safe until all Countries are safe and of course all international
flights are cancelled. But hey 'what do I know ?...
ps: at least in 39-45 they could see their enemy and that lasted 6 years...
