Smart Phone Question

Phone help needed please.

I've wanted to make a couple of calls this week to regularly used numbers. For some reason they were missing on my contacts list. I went to text history thinking I'd be able to call from there, but I couldn't find any text records for those people. This worried me because if I've lost a couple of numbers I've likely lost others too, although I've not yet done an extensive search through my contacts list.

It suddenly occurred to me last night that I'd changed my sim card recently, albeit with my normal supplier, and perhaps some numbers were saved to sim card only rather than the phone. Thankfully I still have my old sim card (phew! I nearly cut it up and disposed of it earlier in the week) so I've just put it back in the phone and, yes, my missing numbers are there.

My question is...How can I transfer the numbers from my old sim card into my phone?
A follow up question would be... once I've got all my numbers safely stored on my phone, can I then also save them to my sim card so that they are saved in both locations?
I'm sure it can be done, I'm just not sure how to do it.

My phone is a Samsung - not sure which model but it's not that new or high tech.

From memory there should be an option somewhere to save SIM contacts to your phone. Trouble is...it duplicates any entries which are already in your phone, leading to possible capacity issues.

Can’t recall if there’s an option to save phone contacts on SIM.

It will be different depending on which version of android your running, on the latest version android 10 it might be similar for version 9.

Go to your contacts click on the the 3 little small bars (menu), click manage contacts then import or export contacts, you can import or export to the sim from here. :)

So yes to both questions :)

Thanks newcastle and Keefy. Unfortunately I'm no further forward.

When I open contacts I can see the 3 dots menu. I can't find 'manage contacts' or similar.
I've got: Delete; Share; Speed Dial Numbers; Settings; Contact Us.
I've tried Setting, but that takes me to: Block Numbers; Caller ID; Call Alerts/Ringtones; Answer/End Calls/ Quick Decline Messages; Call Pop-up; Wi-Fi Calling;Voicemail; Supplementary Services; Other Call Settings; About Phone.

Hmm... On my old handset I've found the right instruction - it's in All Logs. Sadly I can't find an All Logs on this newer phone. :-(

What version of android do you have?

Goto phone settings, then about (bottom of screen) then software information.

Thats the wrong info.

Android version, it will be just a whole number, like android 8 for example.

:-( I can't find anything else.

Keefy, don't worry. I really appreciate your help, but I'm just wasting your time. I'll just have to go through it manually and make a note of all my numbers. It will make me ditch a load of ones that I should have deleted a long time ago. Do I really need Wiz's Egyptian number now... erm.. no!

At the risk of annoying you even more....I’ve just had a look at the ancient twopenny Nokia mobile ( definitely not smart) phone I use in Egypt.

Contacts - Copy - from phone to SIM/from SIM to phone - One by one/ All - Keep original/ delete original...and away you go!

Reading all those last posts above was like reading the 'bible in latin..
I have a dumb phone not a smart phone.
If it rings and I know the caller I say 'yes !

Anything else, is some automated prick trying to part me with my money.
Apps ? go shove them...I don't get adverts when I'm trying to text people and I don't really text.

So, perhaps you lot will be moving into the new ethereal smartphone World, whilst I stay in my sublime ignorance... 8)
Ps: Oh, And I don't get run over or mugged whilst staring at an 1" screen......

Blessed are the Luddites...for they shall inherit the earth .

I agree with Who2. I don’t want a phone that’s smarter than me. :x

Keefy, thank you. I've had to swap sim cards back for now so I can make calls. I'll go through your info tomorrow...after I've had a strong coffee.

I'm not an Android fan but as a suggestion, if your still having problems then buy a second phone. Use your contacts in the old SIM card, copy them over to the phone you want as your main one.

Keefy, thanks for all your help. I've had to put it all on hold at the moment. Since trying to sort this out, and putting back in my new sim card I've lost the ability to make/receive all phone calls and texts.
Finally managed to get online chat help and after an hour of following various instructions I'm no further forward. Now waiting for a new Sim card.
Fed up is a polite way to describe how I feel at the moment.

I have been using a Samsung J3 smart phone for a few years now. Mine is the dual sim version which means far less sim swapping when I am travelling.
I do not store any contacts on the sim cards because that is far to complicated if you have to swap a sim. My phone contacts are synchronised to my Gmail email contacts which include all contacts be they Egyptian, French or UK instantly available to recall.

Right, so what your saying is that synchronising to one's Gmail is not complicated, really surely you jest ?... 8)
Ps: I left my sim card in my desk draw back in the shack,
'good, it's great here only 5 people have my new UK number ha!

I actually quite like my Android phone, although whenever I upgrade the phone you will hear me moaning and groaning as I get to grips with setting it up.

I do have a couple of older phones that are still in perfect working order so, although I have some of my international contacts in my main phone, I keep one phone solely with my Egyptian Sim and contacts, and another with my Moroccan Sim and contacts. I've always found it a convenient way for me to manage my phones and contacts.
