So there I was lying down in the beauty salon having my nails manicured – with a couple of snails moving round on my face. As you do. I hadn’t actually intended having a facial before I went – id just gone for a haircut and manicure. Then Suzy started telling me about her brand new facial which she raved about. Did I want to try it ? Being of a certain age (well over a certain age) I need all the help I can get, but I wasn’t sure about the snails. Then she brought a large plastic box showing me the 2 snails and I was won over. They were quite beautiful , nothing like the common garden snails leaving slime trails in English gardens. Each snail was about 4” long, and a lovely pale cream colour, and Suzy told me they were Russian snails, and the treatment was so good because they left a trail of collagen as they moved round on the face. The extra treatment wouldn’t take any extra time, I could have the treatment while I was having my manicure, so she talked me into it. And I have to say the results were even better than I ever imagined – my skin on my face felt absolutely renewed, Ive NEVER had a facial as good as this. (And It was so relaxing I fell asleep for part of the treatment, never done that in a facial before)
If you fancy it yourself Suzys salon is at the top of St Joseph Street Tel 01275979093

Sounds good, did you get to keep the Snails...?
Was either called Brian ?
1 small garlic clove
3/8 teaspoon table salt
1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 teaspoons finely minced shallot
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon dry white wine
12 to 16 snails
French bread
Oh! and a 'crisp, minerally White Chablis,...'Sounds good to me....
Ps: Remember when you stuck those Red Indian smoke Candles in my ears ?

I'm with Who2 on this. The only good snail is a cooked one. Lots of garlic butter, some good bread and a decent white wine.

Use in cosmetics
The benefits of snail slime in skincare was officially discovered by Dr. Rafael Abad Iglesias, a Spanish oncologist in the 1960s. He applied the Radiation Therapy for killing cancer cells on common snails. It aroused the snails to secrete goo, which stems from their agitation. He accidentally noticed that injured areas on the snail’s skin were healed quickly. Then, Dr. Rafael Abad Iglesias tested the snail secretion on humans and concluded that it could help expedite the restorability of the human skin.

Still a bit yucky if you ask me.

I think the slime stimulates the production of collagen by your own skin....rather than being collagen itself.
Yeah ...I know....too much information

Re: Another Trip to the Beauty Salon
4 days later and my skin still feels fabulous. The things we women do eh? I was very apprehensive beforehand but I couldnt get over how totally relaxing it felt while it was happening, hence my falling asleep. To be honest it was nowhere near as bad as putting mud packs on my face long ago in the past, nowhere near as yucky.

Re: Another Trip to the Beauty Salon
Do you mean during the procedure Carrie? While Suzy was doing my manicure her assistant was "on guard" over my facial - if the snails went too near my mouth or eyes she would gently move them. She watched the whole time.
If you mean after the procedure - Suzy told me that if you have 2 procedures within a week it removes the lines on the upper lip, but unfortunately I cant afford to do that.

Yes I meant during the procedure, I had visions of you falling asleep and them going where they shouldn't.

Re: Another Trip to the Beauty Salon
I much prefer my facial injections every 6 months, and now Botox is almost a thing of the past even better. Laid with my eyes closed, getting tiny injections, with my hands and feet in a bowl of warm paraffin wax. Every year have my hair implants checked, heaven. Looking after yourself is not just for you ladies you know!
