MT had better get his tin hat out if the latest news item is anything to go by. A Russian S200 missile launched in Syria probably against an Israeli rocket has hit Northern Cyprus (the Turkish bit). It seems that these missiles are set to self destruct if they miss their intended target, it did explode but large chunks of it landed in Norther Cyprus. It just goes to show how close that island is to the ongoing conflict and the consequences of a rogue missile or two.

Yep, in all the Turkish newspapers.

It landed virtually on my head, ha ha! About 200 mles away in the Turkish North of the Island. So presumably the Turks will be taking the situation up. Not that worried at all they have to do another 200 miles before it effects us.
Think I would be more worried about knife attacks in London where anyone could be effected at any time of day. (and night).

MT, for you to be 200 miles away from that missile you would need to be in Damascus and not Paphos, the furthest you could have been away from it was 60 miles, you certainly live within the arc that it landed in, a few degrees out and it would have landed on your house. Still it could have been worse, if you live in London you could have had a frozen Kenyan dropping in on you from an aircraft.

If I go to Nicosea its 150km and Kyrenia is quite a bit further up the road from there, if it was only 60miles I would be shopping there more often. Col Coleman (Ex Luxor) would be the best person to ask he either lived or is still living in Kyrenia. I bet the Dr has installed catch nets at his London home for meat collection and recyclable waste... Ha Ha!

Apart from the discrepancy between kilometres and miles, and although I’m no rocket scientist, it does seem that the missile landed within the distances indicated by Horus.

A missile doesn’t have to follow the roads .

Cyprus is 225 k long and at it's widest point 97 k.

MT can stand on the shoreline and if he has kept his recursive punishment device from Luxor AKA 4x2, he can bat the missiles back from whence they came. Which would be nice, as my colleague and I are due out there for a week or so on the 22nd of July...

I don't think that geography is MT's strong point
Given the distance this missile travelled and if it were launched from somewhere such as Latakia close to the Turkish border then it could have hit ANYWHERE in Cyprus as everywhere is within a 200 mile arc of the launch point. As you say, missiles don't follow roads unless it is a 'Cruise' missile. A5, A1 then A6 into Paphos
