Flame trees.

Post by carrie » Sat May 18, 2019 10:29 am

I was sad to read on here that the flame trees along the road from the bridge had all been cut down. Happily I am glad to say that reports of their demise are greatly exaggerated :D :D :D I have just traveled along that road and the flame trees are in full bloom and looking spectacular. Now I suppose it is possible that they were cut down, replanted and managed to grow 30 feet plus also come into full flower in the past few weeks or yet was this one more instance of false news? :?

Slightly off topic, but prompted by the mention of Flame Trees has anyone read the book 'The Flame Trees of Thika' the 1959 book by Elspeth Huxley? A bit dated now, but set in pre WW1 Kenya, it was later made into a series for Thames TV in 1981, the book is a better option and one more for the ladies methinks.

I've not read it but, whenever I hear mention of it, I think that I should.
I noticed the other day that it was being shown on TV. I tuned in expecting a film. Alas it was a serialisation which had already aired a few episodes.
I think Hayly Mills was one of the stars.

Haley Mills would rent a room at The Stafford with Roy Boulting and come down for dinner, looking a bit hot
and flustered. A very rude lady imho.... 8)

Just watched it. I was using my phone when I posted earlier and the clip wouldn't show.
