Victoria Gallery and Museum, an art gallery managed by the University of Liverpool in the UK, is set to host a unique new exhibition this month that showcases never-seen-before pieces from Egypt dating back almost 7,000 years, according to the university’s website.

Running from May 11th to October 31st, ‘Before Egypt’ explore Egypt’s prehistoric past, with a partial focus on Nubia with a view to examining the relevance of Nubia's geographic location in impacting the area's early art, culture and politics.

The exhibition includes pieces from other museums around the UK as well as pieces from the tomb of Ancient Egyptian queen, Neith-Hotep, who is believed to be the first known female monarch.

“When people think of Egypt, they tend to think of pyramids and gold masks, mummies and animal headed gods,” exhibition curator, Dr.Gina Criscenzo Laycock said. “But where did the people who created these wonders come from? And who was Neith-hotep, the first woman in the world whose name survives to this day? Was she a queen, or was she Egypt’s first Pharaoh? This exhibition is an exciting opportunity to talk about how we interpret ancient evidence, and invites visitors to examine their own preconceptions and preferences.”

Not quite sure where Liverpool will gather a good collection together, perhaps from the Petre in London, their Naquada 1,2 and 3 period collection is excellent. For myself I would have thought that the Great Zimbabwe earlier civilisation would have been a brilliant exhibition, but then again, that very early period would have to mention the push of the BLACK MAN out of Africa into Egypt, long, long before the Naquada period.

Ah well, maybe the future will tell us we are descended from Africa, though there are still some I fear who are still not ready for that 'shock', .........let keep Egypt in the title,......it will bring in the crowds,.............will there any mummies ?

Some uncomfortable truths in the Human story and so called evolution.

Like them pyramids, and the fact that the crappiest ones are the newest ones. Evidence of "technology" going into decline, and not the other way round where the Giza Pyramid complex was the epoch.

Technology clearly isn't in decline though. The Egyptians didn't have the technology to create this pyramid...

That is a lovely picture and a beautiful work of art.

Somehow I doubt that pyramid could withstand the immense pressure the GP was designed to withstand, and wether or not it will still be around in 15,000 years is pretty much a given conclusion..

Lets not assume Egyptians built the GP though...

Straw man.

If we wanted to design and build a pyramid today with the dimensions and durability of the Great Pyramid, we could easily use modern technology to do so without having to use a couple of million stone blocks.
