Thebes Hotel.

Post by Who2 »

So just returned from a lecture on a picture presentation of Old Gurna at said hotel.
Recommended on here by 'furry fox, BBlux bazza...
Forget the lecture, zee old German guy was not quite really into modern 'tekinalogy, or zee queens englis, but but....
the Hotel is totally stunning the quality of workmanship amazing as are the views.
I'm going back it's only a 5 minute walk from my place and owned by an old pal,
We have a long history wheelin & dealin, I reminded him of us sharing a revolutionary flag I found in Gezira.
Klaus from The Marsam was also there checking out the place, he was impressed as he always needs good overflow accommodation.

They tell me, the Chef has worked in Europe for many years, mind you he looked like the 'bouncer...... 8)

Problem is, if you go to the website and then Contact, then click on the map to find their location, you are centred on Luxor Hospital on the East Bank....

I can't remember how much we paid last week, only that it was very reasonable given the high quality of the food. I had Oum Alli ( spelling?) for dessert - fabulous!!! And yes, the views are amazing! Loved it, and definitely on the list for a rematch if I make it to Luxor again!

Shed no shed........
So, all in all quite an interesting evening, woke to the hammering on my village steel doors at midnight.
Window open, look out, 'sh*t fire again in my garden,.....'la whaala!

Not the jacuzzi this time or me, bad wiring after finding two other houses without electricity today.
The fire brigade arrived before I woke, a mate Sabar (village Omda) scaled walls & barbed wire to let them in.

Qurna Police Station for 2 hours making statements, they 'cracked up when I asked about Eric the Red Indian ?
Surprise, surprise he's still in Prison refusing to pay for his deportation plane ticket.
The boss said "do want to see him ? "No no, he's 'magnoon & probably asleep. 1.30am....
The boss "He never sleeps, he's 'magnoon......
"No Iv'e never been to Liverpool & never met Mohammed Salah"
We had funny chats including all the other Policemen,
talking about their experiences dealing with & why mad people come to Luxor.
They drove me back in a nice Police wagon the driver recognizing me from the Balloons.

Two very nice fire inspectors from Luxor were just here this morning for a couple of hours, taking endless photographs.
Electrician has connected me and Aida back on, after prayers we will connect the other house.
So back up to the Thebes Hotel for lunch today, it's just another Juma in Paradise..... 8)
Ps: Upon waking all I had hastily put on were my trousers,...... back to front. lol...

My mistake! We asked the price of the rooms, and as far as I remember it was 25€ per room, which we thought was extremely reasonable. I'd certainly stay there if I didn't get board and lodgings at Carries!!!

So to finish my fire story, I had to return to the Police station today after a hilarious 2 hours to
have so many bits of paper signed and to say to the top man no one was trying to kill me.
Being honest it's a mad house the guy in front of me was led off in handcuffs as he was an antiques' thief.
But did get to meet a mate from the 'mochberr secret police... 8)
Ps: And all on a Sunday, normally my day of rest. But you know what they say about the 'wicked...
Pss: My mate the translator, also my plumber just said 'he slipped the antiques thief his packet of fags.
He felt sorry for him. Nice! 'Allah smiles on the compassionate'

I wish! Today a couple of guys arrived at the village entrance, during a funeral of a well respected old lady.
Neither spoke any English, so I got my builder mate to roughly translate, they were from the 'mattaffe, the fire station.
Seems I had to sign more papers ffs..
Anyhow I notice there is a lecture at The Marsam this month about 80 years of the Marsam or as we call it 'Sheik Ali Fundog.
It's by that Bruno guy again, zee German who doesn't know teknology [sic] but it's a better subject than old gurna and old pictures
we have all seen before, hopefully...
Hope to see you all there...'peace & love... 8)

Thursday 28 February a lecture at the Marsam hotel 7 p.m.
Titel : 80 years Marsam Hotel
The lecture by Klaus and Bruno Sandkühler.
More info follows soon. 'a little 'lost in translation but I'm sure you get the drift!........

I wonder if anyone there on the day will ask zee man what this place was before it was Sheikh Ali's,..........and hope he has the photo of the geezer sat on a horse in front of what the place was then.

Almost directly on the opposite side of the road, slightly to the right of German House is where some of the somewhat rather large extended family of Sheikh Ali once lived. They built houses over two little known tombs. The houses now long gone of course along with what was in those now empty tombs. The deep tombs can be clearly seen today.

I know I've written this before on here but, for those who will attend this lecture at The Marsam, in the open courtyard there is a gate facing towards The Colossi during the Nile flood before the days of the High Dam, it was possible to cast a rod and catch fish from this very position.

I've kind of lost interest in Dr Bruno. His failure to control the technology and his presentations seriously detracts from any enjoyment.

Well, that covers the time for when it became The Marsan and the majority of the other time it was Sheikh Ali Hotel, before then was the rather interesting period of this group of buildings,.......so I'm told.

We live in interesting times, if someone bothers to ask the question,......again, so I'm told. :wi .
