A policeman at the Notting Hill festival accidentally set off his belt-held taser and subjected himself to 50,000 volts.

Not realising his predicament, the surrounding crowd, instead of rushing to assistance, applauded and took pictures!

The policeman was eventually taken to a nearby hospital where he is recovering from his ordeal.

Bet he did more for Police / Public relations that any of the "boards" they set up. Good on him.

My one and only visit to the Notting Hill Carnival was about 20 years ago.

A mate and I retired to a quiet corner - steps leading down to a basement flat - to roll a "herbal" and were so engrossed in our activities that we didn't notice the approaching plod until he tapped me on the shoulder and asked me to hand over the magnificent joint I'd just constructed.

He peered at it suspiciously, sniffed it, took out a lighter, lit it and took two enormous toots.

We feared the worst - this was in the days before mary jane was more or less "legalised".

"Mmmmm"..said plod..."Old Holborn. Nice!"...and handed it back before moving off humming to himself.
