I don't gamble, but I love to follow racing - I liked him too, not only because my first husband was called Arthur. Good price the SP (starting price) was 14 -1, so an each way bet would have been handsome.

When I went to the Derby for the first time as a youngster, I made a modest each way bet on the first race, which paid for my day out and two weeks salary over.

Did you make an ante-post bet Zooropa and if so may I ask what odds you got?

I backed it in memory of my Dad who passed away last year £93 win, first time ever ☺

Unfortunately as part of my contract with work, I am not allowed to gamble.

I have in my time seen a few winners come though, and its nice when someone deserving wins.

Well, given our recent "debates" i couldnt have complained if you didnt!

I can have disagreements without any bitterness. Just because we have conflicting ideas about 1 or 2 subjects should not make us bitter enemies now, should it ?

I don't know if there was a horse running with Arthur in its name, but if there had been and still in the UK I would of had my usual £50 to win on it, as I used to do with a name connection and lost in the most memorable of ways. Arthur being my middle name.

Scousers certainly know how to enjoy themselves but still have not found the knack of knowing when to quit the drink judging by the hundred and odd press photo's I've just been looking at on ladies day on my FB. Could not help but notice that there was a lot of mutton dressed as lamb, and some that would of been difficult to distinguish from the actual nags in the race. A sixty five year old woman won the £35,000 Range Rover and £1,000 of shopping vouchers for being the most stylishly dressed on the day, yet in my opinion didn't even come a close 50th to other fashions highlighted.

Well there was a horse running with Arthur in its name and if you had backed it, even at the under orders price you would have been £700 richer!

In by gone times I very rarely backed horses, had little interest in them. But, my first wife was from a family of horse backer losers. One day I was looking at the betting column as she, the wife, was choosing a round robin bet. I saw a horse called the Duse Of Diamonds. Something in the name just gave me a feeling. So I bet £10 to win, tax paid. It romped home at 33-1. Of course I didn't bother to mention it to any of her family as it may have come in last. Another time I was in the works club hang out having a pint, they had a bookies runner placing bets on. While watching the race fixtures on the TV a horse was shown, Another Sam. Sam was the nickname of my niece, Samantha. It was odds of again, 33-1, so placed the same bet , it won hands down. I always suspected that the runner kept my bet as it really was a no hoper. He was non to pleased having to count out the £333.
