109,000 tuk-tuks in Egypt out of a total of two million are licensed: Traffic Department.

"Around two million tuk-tuks (three-wheeled-vehicles) are on the streets today," said Major General Adel Zaki, deputy interior minister for public traffic department, adding that only 109,000 of them are licensed.

The Law No. 121 for the year 2008 was enacted to regulate the numbers of licensed tuk-tuks, however, most of the drivers did not issue licenses, he added.

Meanwhile, Major General Magdy al-Shahed, traffic expert, said no accurate estimate can be made of the number of unlicensed vehicles, adding that the tuk-tuks can not be legalized.

In related news, Kamal Amer, head of the parliament’s defense and national security committee, said that 109,000 tuk-tuks out of a total of two million are licensed, suggesting the suspention of importation of these vehicles immediately, pending the parliament's agreement on a law that regulates their situation.

Yesterday outside my paint shop a kid that looked about twelve nearly took my leg off with one. Good job the brakes worked.

You would have seen many carrie, not all tuk tuks look like the ones in the photo below.



Many of the tuk tuks in Luxor and many other parts of Egypt look like this:



Though just out of Luxor travelling towards Qena at Qus you see many of the typical style of tuk tuk

Yes seen them Keefy and know they are known as Tuk tuk's but I thought Dusak was referring to the top ones, I have to go to Karnak tomorrow so will keep an eye out for them.
I had heard that the black one's aren't allowed across the bridge from the west bank.

When I had to go over to the dark side every day for a couple of weeks I saw several of the covered ones. The one that nearly took my leg off was the more recognizable one, flat back, but, there is one that I have seen in Karnak as well as several desert dune buggies that are not supposed to be on public roads, or so I'm told. But what the heck, this is Egypt so anything goes.
