The Slitherum Ditherum
I read, I slept, I read some more
I heard a movement by the door
There I saw a hideous sight
Slithering before me
I beheld in the night
A creature of no name
With beady eyes and forked tongue
And grey green spikey scales
Then, as the creature crept more near
I gazed upon its tale.
My eyes grew wide, I stepped aside
I saw the hinged hooked tail
Of a five ringed scorpion’s stinger.
The creature, as from a dark abyss
Searched in the shadowed places
It followed a route quite devious
As though it followed orders.
What manifestation was this thing
That suddenly appeared?
Should I be worried over much?
Was it really to be feared?
I looked again
And what I saw
Was not a monster any more.
It slithered and slimed and shook its tail
But I knew this thing would not prevail
It had no force to make me frightened
Though my senses had been heightened.
The moral of this little story
Is beware of jackanory.
