The singer songwriter Leonard Cohen has died aged 82, he was famous for his IMO dirge like song Hallelujah. I remember that he was a favourite of one of our deceased members ‘Living in Luxor’ (Stan) and he would often include it in his quiz night music.

He has been one of my favourites for nearly 50 years. I keep a playlist of all his albums on my mobile, to use as a lullaby mainly.

He should have won the Nobel prize for Literature instead of Bob Geldof I.M.H.O.

But the list of nominations is kept a secret for 50 years, so I will probably never know.

In fairness to Brian, he may have been thinking back to the much publicised 'nomination' of Geldof (along with that other Irish warbler Bono) for the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize.

I believe even Ravi Shankar got on the "unofficial" list (as Brian says...nominations are kept secret for 50 years). 2006 was a good year for peaceful musicians
