Twinkies
Went into Twinkies yesterday for my monthly fix of their cheese sticks. I was out early so they were just finishing mopping the floors. All the staff know me, so one said ''your cheeses sticks?'' I told her to finish the mopping as I was in no hurry. The main counter area that they use to wrap your purchases faces the shelves that have numerous stainless steal containers on that house various biscuits. I glanced at the cheese stick one to see if they had enough to be disgusted to observe five cockroaches running all over them. I pulled the container out and showed it to the girl. her faced dropped. She took it and showed the guy on the till, all he said was no more until tomorrow. I said that this would be the last time I used the shop and left. A few weeks ago I posted that I had the chronic runs for three days. I did think that the cheese sticks were to blame, but also considered that it could of been something else. Now. after seeing this, I'm quite confident that it was more than likely the cheese sticks. The thing is, this counter is always covered with uncovered trays of those sweet biscuits and cakes, so the chances are that these also have little dirty footprints all over them. Anyone know if they sell these cheese sticks anywhere else?

Re: Twinkies
They used to sell sugared almonds, might still for all I know, but since a cockroach was included in them one time I have never set foot in the place again.
Strangely enough I first read this as Wenkie's, and was thinking didn't know they sold cheese sticks got more and more surprised because Wenkie's is spotless but reading again my mistake.
P.S. we will probably get a post about how clean the shops are in U know where. Watch this space.

No need to you already know, compared to the unhygienic, never inspected shops where you live. There was also no need for the comment, seeing as you have known for ages.

You have to be pig-ignorant to endure 10 years of living in a sty before realising it and leavingcarrie wrote:Well my home here MT is far from a sty but if yours was then I can well understand your desire to leave.

Re: Twinkies
One little piggy went to Ausie,
And left the other piggies all alone.
But all the other piggies would jump for joy,
If only he would sell his old home.

It is nice to know that you can afford Australian cleaners.Major Thom wrote:Some little piggies are happy to live in sty's, others prefer a little more luxury.

To be fair, I believe that there are many hard working scrubbers in Aussie. So it may be cost effective to get the service you lack at home.BENNU wrote:It is nice to know that you can afford Australian cleaners.Major Thom wrote:Some little piggies are happy to live in sty's, others prefer a little more luxury.

Re: Twinkies
I am not talking about any particular person here, because people have different designs on how they want to live, I am talking of areas in general, and places in general, areas and places that can be improved and cleaned up.
There is a problem though, the western world has the thought that keeping a place clean and tidy improves the area, and we do it free of charge to compliment the areas that we live. We don't go around thinking how can we make money by improving areas.
So, just think how the place could look if people took more pride, and thought more about their areas improvement than sitting back doing nothing and thinking of money. That includes cleanliness too, which will stop bug infections etc. and the spread of what could be a potential serious illness. How many times do you walk past women making bread and see swarms of flies all over it, goodness knows what diseases they are carrying.
It's like if you do not want snakes in your garden, keep it tidy and clean and you will not get them. If the shop you are talking about is cockroach infected then it's down to the owners to have a deep clean, which should happen on a regular basis anyway, being a food outlet. Providing of course they know what deep clean means. That is what this original post was about, if the owners prefer a sty then use a cleaner outlet for your food, there are now plenty of outlets competing with this shop and selling the same goods.
For those of you who felt my post was aimed at them, what can I say, you know how you live, I don't, and nor am I interested. I have a tendency to believe, if things are not like you would like them to be, do something about it. In the same way if your sho is bug infested just stop using it and look for a similar shop that does not operate in a pig sty manner.

Re: Twinkies
Visually the shop is clean. There are billions of cockroaches infesting every abode and business in this country. And no matter how well you clean and destroy these pests, the next day they have returned in the same numbers. Its a fallacy that these pests only inhabit dirty places as the vast majority of them exist in the sewer systems, then find their way into the buildings. The traditional 'hole in the floor' toilets here are the perfect gateway to gain entrance.

Re: Twinkies
I think you are exactly right in what you say D, and yet people still insist in installing pan loos even in new builds. You can purchase Cockroach Traps to put around these are effective, and will keep infestation down to a minimum. There are many plug ins to distract other bugs, also there are easy ways of stopping ants and crawling bugs. It just takes a bit of thought initiative and property maintenance.
Creepy Crawlies can also be prevented by correctly fitting windows and doors with thresholds. When our villa was built we insisted on floor thresholds, they were an absolute must at keeping the Cockroaches out. Also by keeping the tops on drain holes in bathrooms and kitchens etc will stop creepiest coming out at night. Really you only need these tops off when skrimming the floors.

Re: Twinkies
So what has changed MT since you came to live here? Has it got dirtier, no. Have people changed their habits of leaving the bread in the street to rise, no. Did you walk round wearing blinkers before you came to live here? Perhaps that's why you ended up living in what you so charmingly describe as a sty.

Re: Twinkies
PersonallyI just think it got worse. Money and jobs dried up people could no longer be bothered, many list interest in their areas. You can see and tell this was happening, the people that could not see we're the blinkered ones or the RTG wearers. To say that Luxor has not changed over the past 5 or 6 years is a joke, just ask those that have no business of those that are struggling to keep their business afloat. These are things that change the perspectives of people's lives. These are things that make Pelops think why should I bother any more, the future looks bleak. Really you should look at some of the recent posts, ie cockroaches at Twinkies, business failing, cruiser sinking. You hardly heard any of these stories 6 or 7 years ago.
When you think about it on the other hand, very few people see anything wrong in Luxor, could it be that they don't want to bring their choices into question, or to admit any mistakes, or anything like that. To me I am never bothered about making a mistake, we all make them and some are noble enough to admit to them. I basically think the majority are living in Luxor because of costs. But that is about to change. This .winter it will be interesting to see if anyone pistes on the amount of people returning and asks the question why have they not come back this year.

Re: Twinkies
Yes, a great deal has changed over the years, started when Hosni was removed. But one thing that foreigners will never outmatch the Egyptians at, is their inbuilt ability to 'just get on with it' attitude.
