In 1964, Egyptian Al-Musawwir magazine published a report claiming that boxing legend Muhammad Ali had a love affair with an Egyptian girl called Inyat Mustafa. The news reached global media outlets as Ali’s then-wife Sonji Roi, with whom he had a disagreement at the time, had learnt about it.

Ali denied the report and commented in a few words saying it was a lie, adding that he was not even interested in filing a lawsuit against the magazine.

The boxing legend, who passed away on Friday following a battle with Parkinson’s, did visit Egypt in 1964 upon the invitation of the Arab Boxing Federation which was headquartered in Cairo.

Ali stayed in Egypt for 15 days during which he requested to meet with late President Gamal Abdelnasser, whom he wasn’t scheduled to meet with.

Egyptian media outlets covered Ali’s visit to Egypt and followed him throughout his entire stay. They documented his visit to al-Azhar mosque and his meeting with Abdelnasser.

One of the pictures showed Ali kissing a statue of Abdelnasser upon his arrival to the late president’s office to meet him.

Ali also visited the Aswan Dam and said he was impressed by it. According to news reports, he said that significant work was an obvious evidence of the greatness of Abdelnasser.

Ali also visited archeological sites in Luxor as well as the pyramids and the Sphinx.

In some of the photos taken of him during his visit, he is seen wearing a turban and riding camels and horses near the pyramids.

Countless thousands kiss statues around the globe every day as part of a religious ceremony or to acknowledge the effigy that it depicts. In Ireland countless thousands of folk kiss a stone that one has to adopt the most uncomfortable position on their back to reach it.

The Blarney Stone (Irish: Cloch na Blarnan) is a block of Carboniferous limestone[1] built into the battlements of Blarney Castle, Blarney, about 8 kilometres (5 mi) from Cork, Ireland. According to legend, kissing the stone endows the kisser with the gift of the gab (great eloquence or skill at flattery). The stone was set into a tower of the castle in 1446. The castle is a popular tourist site in Ireland, attracting visitors from all over the world to kiss the stone and tour the castle and its gardens.

The word blarney has come to mean "clever, flattering, or coaxing talk". Irish politician John O'Connor Power defined it this way: "Blarney is something more than mere flattery. It is flattery sweetened by humour and flavoured by wit. Those who mix with Irish folk have many examples of it in their everyday experience.

So, its supposed to endow the kisser with ''eloquence, the ability towards flattery and the gift of the gab [talk]. :tk I wonder if we could get one placed on the main page of the forum. I think that, if it works, it could be of benefit to some members. A quick kiss before you start typing... ST...

The Blarney Stone. A few coachloads of americans arrived before me, by the time I climbed up to the actual stone and saw the people being tipped backwards and kissing it, it was covered with smeared lipstick and slime . .YUK. I went elsewhere and took a few photos of us sitting on the outside toilets, whoosh, straight down the side of the castle !

Well if it is MT they have left it a bit late Ali's visit was in 1964 and that's when the article and photo's were published, but as they say better late than never.
