Re: Egypt air plane missing
I hope you mean the one from Paris to Cairo!
EgyptAir Flight MS804 from Paris to Cairo 'disappears from radar'
The missing plane is believed to be an Airbus 320
An EgyptAir flight from Paris to Cairo has disappeared from radar, the Egyptian airline says.
It says there are 59 passengers and 10 crew members on board Flight MS804.
The aircraft was flying at 37,000ft (11,300m) when it went missing over the eastern Mediterranean. An official said the plane lost contact with radar at 02:45 Cairo time (00:45 GMT).
The company said it would issue an update "when more information becomes available".
EgyptAir said the plane disappeared about 10 miles (16km) into Egyptian air space.
It said the concerned authorities had been notified, and search and rescue teams were now looking for the plane.
According to the flightradar24.com website, which tracks passenger flights around the globe, the plane is an Airbus A320.

Yes, when I glanced it the breaking news banner had been placed over a Chinese plane incident, making it read that way, so re-logged on to correct the mistake.

So now for the fall out. How many will cancel their holidays considering Egypt Air is the only way to travel to Luxor? Personally I will still travel unless the FCO advises against it.

Some may cancel, not because of Egyptair - last time, it was a Russian plane - but because it was on its way to Egypt.crewmeal wrote: How many will cancel their holidays considering Egypt Air is the only way to travel to Luxor?

Plane left Charles De Gaulle on way to Cairo, 66 passengers plus 10 crew. Emergency message was received and it is being presumed that the aircraft has crashed.

Jean-Paul Troadec, the former chief of France’s air accident investigation unit, the BEA, said the disappearance was “almost certainly” caused by “an attack”.
Mr Troadec, one of the most respected names in aviation, said the lack of live emergency alert suggested a “brutal event”.
He told Europe 1 radio station in Paris: “A technical problem, a fire or a failed motor do not cause an instant accident, and the team has time to react.
“The team said nothing, they did not react, so it was very probably a brutal event and we can certainly think about an attack
A distress signal sent from the plane was likely sent after impact, Egyptair is reported to have said.
The call was transmitted at 4.26am Cairo time - with the plane dropping from radar at 2.45am.
It was received by military search and rescue team, indicating it was likely an automated signal after impact, reports BNO News.
A defence ministry source said authorities were also investigating an account from the captain of a merchant ship who reported a “flame in the sky” some 130 nautical miles south of the island of Karpathos.
Highlighting the deeply troubling manner in which the plane disappeared, Ehab Mohy el-Deen, head of the Egyptian air navigation authority said: “They did not radio for help or lose altitude. They just vanished.”
He added: ‘There is nothing normal about this, of course.’
The fate of the flight is currently unknown - but fears are growing the aircraft has crashed into the sea.

Re: Egypt air plane missing
An aircraft just does not explode mid air without a reason. Even a rapid decompression is controllable with everyone donning O2 masks. This would give pilots plenty of time to call a 'mayday' emergency message. I'll speculate to say this was sabotage.

Re: Egypt air plane missing
This is very concerning news.
Its natural to speculate I suppose but often not helpful.
Already, some of the information in the above posts is being questioned/denied.
There is already speculation on effects on Egypt, flight/holiday cancellations.
And that's before we really "know" anything.
Terrorist attacks, distress signals, decompression, exploding in mid air.
Personally I wish people would wait for solid official information.
And with all due respects, if it comes from an Egyptian source id wait some more on top of that.
Not a good day.

Re: Egypt air plane missing
Whatever has happened it is all very sad. My thoughts are with the families of all those on board the plane. The torment of not really knowing what has happened must be awful.

Re: Egypt air plane missing
I read that this was the plane's fifth flight of the day, Which may or may not have a bearing on the case.

Re: Egypt air plane missing
It shouldn't take too long to find some wreckage which may give some indication of cause...e.g. if there was an explosion.
Unfortunately, without some such indication, we're down to the 'black boxes' to provide more insight and it may take weeks or months to recover these....if indeed they are ever found. The plane appears to have gone down in a particularly deep part of the Mediterranean
I'm afraid we will have to endure speculation for quite some time.

Greek sources dispute wreckage claimHorus wrote:Wreckage has been spotted 50 miles SE from last location
Egypt saying that terrorists are responsible
Greek officials have cast doubt on Egypt’s confirmation that it found debris belonging to flight MS804, giving a conflicting account of the findings to the Associated Press and Reuters.
Ehab, Badawy, Egypt’s ambassador to France, told the nation’s BFM television: “All I will say is that our embassy in Athens told us that it was contacted by Greek authorities, who signalled that they found white and blue debris corresponding to EgyptAir’s colours.”
But Greek sources have told Reuters the material they had found so far was not blue and white.
The Associated Press meanwhile has word from an unnamed senior Greek official, who says the debris found so far does not belong to flight MS804.
Egypt’s Civil Aviation ministry had said “floating material,” including life jackets and plastic items, were found in the sea off the Greek island of Karpathos, close to the suspected site of the plane crash.
Earlier claims that distress signal has been received by Egyptian military were later denied.

All these claims followed by denials must be extremely distressing to the families of those involved.

Re: Egypt air plane missing
I only reported them finding some wreckage, not if it was from the plane involved, indeed helicopter footage was showing bright orange debrise floating in the water in the search area.
