Before the 2011 revolution, thousands of tourists explored Luxor’s temples every day. Now only a few hundred make the visit. Many people have lost their jobs and struggle to provide for their families.

As part of a #USAID project, The American Research Center in Egypt has hired more than 500 local villagers to work on an archaeological dig in Luxor’s Valley of the Nobles; most of these men used to work in tourism. Now they have an income again and can support their families while tourism returns to Luxor.

Thanks very much Hepzibah, really great little film. Not sure if the 2 new tombs mentioned were 2 of the new ones that Carrie and I visited in January.

My friend was telling me this morning that close to the factory were her brother works near to her village a farmer yesterday uncovered what is believed to be extensive Roman ruins. The area is now cordoned off by the police and a French team are excavating the site.
