Latest news this morning is that another 21 have been taken yesterday. So very sad when these conscientious men take up work in a country that they know is dangerous to take financial responsibility for their families upkeep only to get paid with the loss of their lives. It is said that they were from upper Egypt.

Got an e-mail today saying the Egyptian Military had attacked IS in Libya, but have not seen any confirmation yet.

Just to remind you that this strike and others that will follow have the approval of the Libyan authorities, according to information 40 to 50 terrorists were killed as a result of this one strike.

My sympathies are with the families of the dead, and their friends. Minya seems to have taken a very big hit.

I see that 7 days of mourning have started. How will this affect daily life in Luxor? I arrive on Saturday morning, insha'llah.

I assume that there will be extra security on the road from Hurghada.

Well everything seems as normal here this evening Brian, but for the first time while I've been here early this morning there was a military convoy that went through town but seen nothing since, I am a little surprised that a number of ex-pat in the town have no knowledge of recent events here, perhaps that's a good thing, I'm not sure.

And of course sympathies to the innocents killed in this action, including three children. According to the news, the military fully support Egypt's actions, but the countries rulers state that they have violated their territory.

It's about time the World's media started using this term rather than giving them any credence…
"Daesh" (a derogatory name for the Islamic State group)….
Ps: Perhaps many ex-pates don't talk to locals as humans ?

Well, the official, elected Government have given their consent and co-operation anyway. However, the unofficial Islamist Government who have installed themselves in Tripoli have condemned the strike, calling it an 'attack on Libya's sovereignty'! Which doesn't bode well. Egyptian Streets are now putting the jihadist death toll at 64. Whatever the actual number I would that it had been more! Generally, there have been a lot of mixed reports about this incident. As you yourself heard, there was a report (rumor?) that the hostages were safe and in the Egyptian Embassy. What a shame that turned out not to be the case. Another area of confusion is the number of hostages killed. Whilst most reports seem to claim that all 21 have been beheaded some claim that the actual video shows only ten of them. If they have kept some back it would beg the question as to what they plan to do with them/demand for their release? And now they have allegedly captured another 21 Egyptian Copts? Is there any significance to the number? IMO opinion this situation is far from over :(

What is very bizarre, is that same unofficial lot have asked the West to target specific areas and help rid them of ISIS people, according to several UK news reporters today. I don't care which country bombs the ******** out of existence to be honest.

Good question and one I've been pondering over too.

Just a little up date on this for you, THIS MORNING the Egyptian government announced that it was to deploy the army to support the police throughout Egypt, obviously they wanted to get them in place before bringing this to the attention of the media.

A Kid got a whipping for calling ISIS Daesh.
.
.
Something I could easily have endured having watched the video, which now seems to have been taken off the "NEWS" ? website's, due to the more clever people making their observations known,
and the Muzzy haters then trying to quickly remove the comments they failed to think about before posting..

There's nothing derogatory about using the term "Daesh"......it's simply the acronym for their full name.

DAESH derives from the Arabic name with which they refer to themselves, “al-Dawla al-Islamiya fi Iraq wa al-Sham.”

It's far more insulting to muslims generally to refer to them as ISLAMIC State.

IS would disagree with you. I saw a news post about the child who was lashed by IS for using this term about them too. Dusak is certainly not imagining or making it up.
