Back in the good old days of the paradise theatre, you could get them extended at the Post Office for a small fee,
but I am not sure if things have changed regarding that since the the revolution.
I mention this, because it should invoke a helpful response from a reliable source or two if you were looking to stay longer...

It's very easy to extend your tourist visa at the Passport Office in Luxor. I did it in January, 3 months cost EL12.
