Descendants of Ramses II
Okay this has been on my mind for a while now and I was wondering to myself whether or not this could be possible. Seeming how Ramses had over a hundred children do you think they have living relatives around?
Another mystery on the mind is that if Ramses had many sons why didnt many of his living sons tried to make claim to the throne or at least thier sons I mean wouldn't they have claim to the throne anyhow.

Re: Descendants of Ramses II
It's highly probable that there are living descendants of Ramesses II.Frater0082 wrote:Okay this has been on my mind for a while now and I was wondering to myself whether or not this could be possible. Seeming how Ramses had over a hundred children do you think they have living relatives around?

By long established convention the throne would pass to the son of the pharoah's Great Royal Wife.....if alive at the relevant time. Grandsons, that is sons of sons predeceasing, had no claim if there was a surviving uncle of sufficient seniority (i.e.born to a principal wife)
Son's of lesser wives and sons born to the harem rarely got a look in.
It's entirely possible that some of Ramesses' sons & grandsons might have aspired to succeed but we have no record of any palace intrigues.
It has been postulated that several of Ramesses' successors were related to him (e.g.Amenmesse)....not unlikely in view of the number of descendants.

Re: Descendants of Ramses II
I could imagine how the scenario was after his death and the death Mereptah or beyond. There must of been quite a dispute going on in the harem.
But there is no doubt in my mind that some of them held sway in court.
Another could foreign wives return home after thier husband dies?

I'm not aware of any embargo although I suspect it would be unlikely as the foreign wives were diplomatic 'gifts'.Frater0082 wrote:I could imagine how the scenario was after his death and the death Mereptah or beyond. There must of been quite a dispute going on in the harem.

Re: Descendants of Ramses II
The royal harem housed not only pharaoh's wives, principal & lesser, but also his concubines and, of course, the royal offspring...plus all the staff and attendants. In the case of Rameses II it must have been vast and spread over several palaces. It would not have been incumbent on Rameses to sleep with all of his wives & concubines and it is possible that some saw him rarely..if at all (apart from when they arrived).
Those that he did not find attractive (possibly diplomatic brides) might spend their entire lives in the harem...dying in the virginal state in which they arrived
Several of Rameses' daughters rose to become Great Royal Wives and there is some evidence that one or two may have borne him children.

It is my understanding that once a foreign wife escapes, sorry, leaves Egypt, they can no longer afford to return.Frater0082 wrote:I could imagine how the scenario was after his death and the death Mereptah or beyond. There must of been quite a dispute going on in the harem.

Re: Descendants of Ramses II
My thoughts would be to contact various charities and foundations starting with The Welcome Foundation formulate a business/charitable plan laying out your aims and intentions to whit: start a foundation to study egyptians with a DNA testing medical plan upon a wide scale.
Your 1st problem is to obtain a DNA sample of that which you seek to match, get the sample then half your problem is solved, it's all downhill from then on in, the money and ideas will follow.
1st you must take the leap into the unknown, "For it's only the grain of sand in your moccasin that will wear you out not, your journey ahead." 'good luck ' Fortune Favors the Brave…..

Re: Descendants of Ramses II
poor women I would've slept with the royal guard or something. I don't think sitting around all day and being pretty would've made me happy. One way or another I was going to get some attention whether from a household servant or a guard, a gal has needsnewcastle wrote:The royal harem housed not only pharaoh's wives, principal & lesser, but also his concubines and, of course, the royal offspring...plus all the staff and attendants. So does this means that there a numerous unknown prince and princesses that are not accounted for?
Wait of course, because only those of the Great Royal Wife or Wives were deemed important.

Why not its a very highly unlikely chance that you will ever soak the royal loins so why not. Plus u could've gotten away with anything in those days no one would've known lol

I'm fairly certain the Royals were not allowing the Guards bedding rights to their women and took measures to ensure this wasn't gonna happen ....

Re: Descendants of Ramses II
Why do you imagine a lot of the male guardians were eunuchs ?
It's highly likely that a bit of hanky-panky went on....despite the dire consequences if caught "in flagrante".

The world is full of the b****** offspring of the ruling classes, and has been for thousands of years. I myself could be of b****** blood due to the unexpected firing of a cannon one summers night at that crucial moment. Or I could just be a plain old simple b******, who knows.

Re: Descendants of Ramses II
Translated from the walls of Karnak. XIX Dynasty. Poss. Rameses II?
It was Christmas Eve in the harem
The eunuchs all standing there,
A hundred dusky maidens,
Combing their pubic hair.
When along came Father Christmas,
Striding down the marble halls,
When he asked what they wanted for Christmas,
The eunuchs all answered, "Balls!"
