Police Sexual Assault

An Egyptian policeman has been accused of sexually assaulting a mentally ill woman while she was being detained.

The alleged attack took place at a police station in Giza in August and the accused has now been referred to the criminal court by Egypt’s prosecutor-general, Hisham Barakat.

The Cairo Post reported that the girl had been held in custody after two unidentified people attempted to kidnap her on a TukTuk. The would-be abductors were apprehended by passers-by, who reported the incident to the police.

The young woman was held while an investigation was carried out; she was allegedly assaulted when the accused policeman called on her to make a statement.

Two women sharing a cell with her supported her testimony, while the policeman is said to have denied the allegations.

The alleged victim is 16-years-old and the police man is 40, according to Ahram Online.

Egypt’s interior ministry said in a statement: “Tough measures must be taken against the policeman in the case that the incident actually happened.”

Police brutality in Egypt remains a major concern. Last year it was reported that hundreds of children had been illegally detained and in many cases tortured by the Egyptian police following the protests which erupted after the second anniversary of the 2011 uprising.

And rights groups have said that detainees are subject to cruel mistreatment, including beatings, electrocution and “hanging” torture.

The Stanford experiment was never repeated. It's ongoing and always has been.
No need to repeat what everyone already knows. One human being can and should never be given power over another.

What makes a crime of this nature committed by a police man particularly heinous is the 'power' imbalance between the two.

Although I would never say that I doubted that this assault took place, the only other witnesses were banged up with the girl, and those two would be highly unlikely to support the police and what they should be there for, doing their job in a proper and correct and legal manner. Or did the assault take place, him thinking that his word would go above that of the three detainees.

In Egypt, I think it's more likely that 2 women in custody would be most likely to SUPPORT the police version of events.....for fear of the consequences of doing otherwise.

That they have endorsed the assault claim makes the victim's allegations all the more believable . Recent cases indicate, however, that the assailant, if found guilty, is still likely to get off lightly.

I can't remember the name of the site some one recommended me to watch a few years back, but it highlighted the mobile phone footage that had been taken in the cells here showing the stripping, torture and sexual assault, including rape, of female prisoners of all ages. Quite horrendous viewing and sickening to watch. In part, it put the Spanish Inquisition to shame.

Soon, I expect. Never believe silence means the end. There is a fish that lives in a cave somewhere on the planet that literally gets frozen to death for up to six years. Then, when the rise in temperature is high enough, up it pops, as lively as it lived before the big sleep, ready to carry on where it left off.

I wonder how much life time this fish lives vs how much frozen time this fish lives or in this case how is its living life counted?

Seriously I hope the incident of the police sexual assault is being investigated by another unaffiliated department to the police department.

@ Newcastle - yeah - :C WHAT was I thinking? :C Guess I'll claim a senior's moment! (Would be NICE if all these 'incidents' were investigated by a dis-interested third party that could make recommendations for sanction if guilt is found)
