There is a very good reason that I do not get involved in Politics.. :td
But for those who do, then this will probably help clear up any confusion as to what is going on in Egypt and the Middle East.

Iran is backing Assad, The Gulf States are against Assad.
Assad is against the Muslim Brotherhood, the Muslim Brotherhood and Obama are against General Sisi.
But the Gulf States are Pro Sisi ! Which means they are against the Muslim Brotherhood !
Iran is Pro Hamas, but Hamas is backing the Muslim Brotherhood !
Obama is backing the Muslim Brotherhood, yet Hamas is against the USA!
The Gulf States are Pro-USA, but Turkey is with the Gulf States against Assad: yet Turkey is
pro Muslim Brotherhood, against Sisi, and General Sisi is being backed by the Gulf States !

Well done Bullet, I'm sure even Sir Humphrey Appleby could not have made that any clearer.......I feel certain there may be a desk for you at either the FCO, or dare I say it,........the Cabinet Office. :wi .

For got sake Alistair, don't forget the Kurds up there in the North of Iraq. Remember that area was why the West went to war with that country, actually, it really is three countries, until the colonial powers got hold of it.

The situation is a simple one, the north is where the oil is, so the Kurds are doing a 'Scottish', if you get my drift here, with a little bit of Arab brute force, and a little help from their friends, who will be paid handsomely, should they win.

No prizes for guessing why the Americans are getting involved though.

Before the colonial powers got hold of Iraq it was three provinces of the Ottoman Empire.
Why are the Americans getting involved? Oil? I don,t think so. As Andrew Neil pointed out on the daily politics a few months ago America won't be importing a single barrel of oil from the ME by the end of Obamas second term and in a few years time they'll be out producing the Saudis.
I think that Obama has shown himself very reluctant to get involved in a regional "civil war" between Sunni and Shia and who can blame him. Let the Saudis and Iranians waste THEIR blood and treasure. Maybe the region is at the beginning of its own Thirty Years War. :(

Jonesy.
