Racists racists racists, that's all you heard before the elections, now having shown a fantastic showing in the Local Gov and European elections everyone is trying to back track. Cameron says he thinks Farage is an opponant to be respected and members of his party are now talking about forming a coalition with UKIP after the next election. Labour says they must listen to what the people want, I supposed that was why they were elected. As representatives of the people.
Just goes to show what a load of hypocrites they all are
Democracy no such thing.
No doubt El Sisi will win the elections being held here today and tomorrow at least he will have the majority of the popular vote.

When there is little to choose from, he's bound to get the majority. To my mind a true election would have a strong selection covering all points that people want to see implemented. One candidate, one mans opinion possibly leads to one set of rules and personal decisions.

You're bound to get a majority when most of your opponents have withdrawn from the contest or are behind bars. That's not democracy.

Putting murders and potential 'rug munchers in prison seems to go down quite well locally, democracy takes as long and lasts as long as it takes to put a X on a piece of paper....

UKIP do at least offer the people what they really want, and not what those Eaton toffs impose.
Problem is, Human Nature. Give one person power over another and they will become corrupt.
The Stanford experiment proves that. But still people give away their power..

That is rather a sweeping statement, where did you pull that one from? I supported UKIP, but I am not a racist, I just believe that there should be controlled immigration from the E.U. and not an open door policy. I have many coloured friends and my wife's father was Polish, he came here after surviving three Nazi death camps. So think before you start slinging epithets around. Especially when you yourself are xenophobic, especially towards visitors to a country where you are only a long term visitor

Because they are ............ and that includes every shade of society and skin colour of British citizens unfortunately. It's not what it sounds like when you first hear it.
PS I saw and heard that report too Doctor.

I think - the reason UKIP did so well is because the British "Joe Public" are sick to the back teeth of being slandered as racists when we question the seemingly increasing lack of control over domestic policy - immigration is only part of the issue.
And if a third of Britain now admits to being racist - well perhaps those parties who are so appalled by the revelation might want to consider what percentage of that voting body has historically led them to power?
And do any of them have the courage of their convictions to stand up and say - If you are a racist we don't want your vote?
Or will Labour and Conservative alike try to backtrack on their tirade of insults to the electorate to secure their own ends?
Actually - come door knocking time - I think I will just have one question ….
"By your definition I am a racist - will your party accept my vote"?
Should make for some interesting You Tube vids!

I still don't agree that 30%+ of british people are racist, suppose it must be right, because the mass media would never tell a porkie, or indulge in ******** scaremongering would they. Heaven forbid. Also reading the natcen data, it shows an overall decline in prejudice since 2004. So who jumped the gun in reality?

There was a poll and in the poll one third of the British population admitted to being racist.
There are always poll's for this that and the other has any one ever partaken in a poll, I would like to know who these pollsters poll, how do they select the people that they ask do they do it face to face over the telephone, via the internet and what exactly is the question asked.

47% of 83 people asked agreed that more than 30% of the British Population is racist. It is a bit like the endorsements on some cosmetic products!
Have you ever seen the quiz show, Pointless, on BBC1 at 1715? I often wonder who the 100 people asked are.

An awful lot of it nowadays is via telephone, I have a friend who used to work for Gallup.
Most of the phone stuff is concentrated on consumer polls - which shampoo do you prefer etc.
Most political polls are not conducted with a view to finding out what people really think, that's the last thing the person paying for it wants.
Its to be able to try and influence more people to think that way or to justify a policy decision and its achieved by being clever at how the question is asked.
For example my friend once worked on a poll about London transport, commissioned by Ken Livingston when he was the Mayor.
The question was "do you want to see London transport improved"? yes or no?
Well, whos going to say "no I want it to get worse"?
Later, he used the "poll" in order to justify a policy decision by saying that the majority of Londoners wanted investment in London transport because they said they wanted it to be improved.
That's not what they said at all and my friend was fuming at how he had twisted the poll results to suit his own ends.
