Generators

Post by carrie »

Walking up Jussef Hassen Street the other day I saw generators on sale, now with all the talk on here about electricity meters and whose names they should be in etc a friend and I were wondering, do you have to have mains electricity?
If you bought a generator could you have it working all the time and how big would it have to be to run say a one bedroom house with one air con plus the usual hot water fridge tele etc?
Anyone any idea how much they cost and are they easy to run?

We were discussing this the other day as a friend wanted one for the same reasons you mention Carrie. As Who2 says, you are better opting for a well known brand, but the main consensus of opinion, considering the A/C, is that you would need at least a ten kw output. You also need to run a separate cable from the unit to switch over when the power goes off. Of course running it depends on the availability of fuel. They are also very noisy and the fumes can be a bit of a problem. Bombay will be able to tell you more when he wakes up and see's the post. Personally I would sit naked with a cold drink in one hand and a ciggy in the other and sweat it out, and as it will be dark, your privacy is assured except when you draw on the ciggy :up Daylight cut off's are another thing entirely. 8)
