The Piper

The Piper.

Recently a young piper was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man.
The dead man had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the Nova Scotia back country.

As the piper was not familiar with the backwoods, he soon found himself lost, and being a typical man, didn't stop for directions.

He finally arrived an hour late and saw that the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight.

There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch. He felt badly and apologized to the men for being late.

He went to the side of the grave and looked down and saw the vault lid was already in place. He didn't know what else to do, so he started to play his pipes.

The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around.
The piper played out his heart and soul for this man with no family and friends.
He played like he had never played before for this poor homeless man.

And as he played "Amazing Grace", the workers began to weep. They wept, the piper wept, they all wept together. When the piper had finished, he packed up his bagpipes and started for his car. Though his head was hung low, his heart was full.

As he opened the door to his car, he heard one of the workers say, "I've never seen nothing like that before and I've been putting in septic tanks for over twenty years."

Maybe so Wiz, but I for one miss your post, like so many of the others who once wrote on this site.

What a very nice thing to say A-Four. I shall now endeavor to post more often. Here's a little something to keep you going till then.

Time is like a river.
You cannot touch it twice.
Because the flow that now has passed
Shall never pass again.
Enjoy every moment of life.

this takes me back to my days in Norwich when the Co-Op used to hire me to play at funerals, always everyone wanted Amazing Grace, I could never understand why because the Funeral Air should have been The Fowers from the Forest, but never once did I play for the burial of a septic tank...... It's funny how these things happen, I always remember landing at Luxor Airport once, the Captain came on the radio and announced, "Can all ladies wait until the aircraft stops, before removing their knickers"
