What a great idea - imagine having these in Luxor!

Cairo Governor Galal Mostafa Saeed announced the deployment of 24 smart minibuses, as part of a larger LE8-million project to deploy a fleet of smart minibuses that would replace the current 200.

The current minibuses have been operating under a six-year conract with the Public Transport Authority’s Cairo company for mass transport.

Saeed said the governorate, in coordination with the company, operated the smart minibus unit to provide a mass transport service through merging digital technology and operation systems according to international quality standards.

The minibuses, which operate on the Shubra-Airport line, will have the free WiFi service, LEDs to display the route and LCDs to show entertainment and awareness materials. Current and upcoming stops will be declared acoustically. Commuters can pay for the ticket in cash or via a prepaid smart card that can be bought at stops.

Several tenders will be offered to develop the buses and services in order to encourage using mass transport instead of private vehicles to reduce traffic. Fifty smart minibuses will be added to the service monthly starting next month.

Yeah!!! It would probably work out cheaper than sitting in an internet shop for a few hours... all the buses will be full with people just circling Luxor using the internet
