O.B.E. stands for Order of the British Empire, not Officer. :-)DJKeefy wrote:Mr. Ehab Gaddis receives his O.B.E (Officer of British Empire) by Her Majesty's Ambassador Mr. James Watt.

Actually the award is:
Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE)

Re: Mr. Ehab Gaddis receives his O.B.E
If there is a person who deserves an O.B.E. for his work for dealing with British tourists in the past, it is this man. Occasionally, I would pop in and have a pot of tea with him. lf there was one person who could write the book, it would be him, and then up came the so called ex-pats. While some of these were fine, and just got on with things, others that started to arrive were, well what can l say other than, at times filled me with hysterical laughter, while dear Mr Gaddis kept his almost usual diplomatic straight look, though, just occasionally his face would slip, and a slight grin would appear.
I was wondering here, if any of the old school remembers 'Digger', and his rottwiler that seemed to live in the garden, the old Chinese woman. 'Digger' had the consulate up from the Winter Palace, on the wall by the Gates was a beautiful emblem of the authority that lay beyond these gates. This old building has long gone, along with its residents, in its place now stands the pink granite bank.
I have often wondered how 'Digger' would have reacted to some of the crack-pot ex-pats of recent years in Luxor, assuming they ever got past Madam Dong, but then again, l remember Mr Gaddis was warned several years ago, to not concern himself with such matter. However, he has always been an interesting, kind, thoughtful and most of all, a highly diplomatic person.
A-Four.

Re: Mr. Ehab Gaddis receives his O.B.E
He kept a straight face when he lost my passport for six months.
My mate always signs himself OBE, even Tony Blair replied to him using OBE on the address, my mate said it stands for One Big Ego...
Ps; all the ex-pats here over the years have always been nuts, why do think I came ?
"It's an Egyptian fing!"
