Foreign Minister Assistant for European Affairs, Hatem Seif al-Nasr, said that the credibility of some European countries is at stake as a result of their responses to the situation in Egypt.
“It is not just about official relations between Egypt and these countries, but it also applies to Egyptian public opinion, which has become [increasingly] bitter towards the stances of some European countries,” Seif al-Nasr said in a meeting held with ambassadors of a handful of European countries in Cairo on Saturday.
“These attitudes also encourage the persistence of practices of violence and terrorism, which negatively reflect on attempts to implement the road map and the path of the political process through the transitional period,” he added.
He also pointed to a statement made by the Egyptian Church, which condemned foreign interference in the Egyptian affairs.
Al-Azhar, Egypt's highest Sunni authority, also rejected foreign interference in Egypt and condemned all acts of violence and sectarian strife.
