Four Irish Siblings Detained
Braking News is that the Irish Consular is trying to get a meeting with 4 Irish Siblings who were detained at the Al Fetah Mosque incident in Cairo yesterday.
Is the Irish Consular Office not giving out the same information as the FCO, because if they are the Irish People detained would not have been anywhere near the protests or in fact any assembly's at all.
It seems as though they were not following procedure and are now crying in their saucer because they have been caught out.
Consular information is given out to protect people in foreign countries to help them understand the laws and procedures it also gives out information for self protection, these people were obviously not following this information or thought themselves invincible.

Here is a link. http://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/af ... -1.1497767
The siblings seem to have been in the area deliberately, or why would they have taken refuge in the mosque?
I recall a report last week that any foreigners caught up in the protests would be arrested as spies.

I chose not to make that comment although it certainly crossed my mind. I assume, from the rest of the article, that the family moved to Ireland 18 years ago, almost certainly from Egypt. I am glad that my tax $$$ will not be used to rescue them from a situation of their own making.

From the previously cited article, "Their father is Hussein Halawa, the Imam of the Islamic Cultural Centre in Clonskeagh in Dublin."Bombay wrote:I read somewhere their father is the Grand Imam of Ireland.
He is also the Chairman of the Irish Council of Imams, and a Shi'ite. He came to Ireland from Egypt in 1996 according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_Cu ... of_Ireland

Re: Four Irish Siblings Detained
My gut feeling is that there will be intervention by the Irish Government and that these four people will be released with nothing more than a "slap on the wrist."
Whether that's fair or not...that's the way things work here and probably in Ireland too.
The fact that there are 4 of them will add weight and pressure and all stops will be pulled out to secure their release.
It's bit unfair to be honest..I totally agree that they shouldn't have been there. What exactly was the purpose of their "holiday?"
But,I foresee International and European outrage if they are not released.Cos,let's face it,there are 4 of them, all siblings, and that very fact will strengthen any campaign for release...much more so than if it was a lone UK/American/European "tourist."
No doubt they will now be protesting vehemently that they are "Irish"citizens.Maybe they should've thought of that before they embarked on their "adventure"and should have heeded the advice of their Government.
I wish them safe passage though, and hope they're released unharmed. That's my Christian instincts coming to the fore!

Re: Four Irish Siblings Detained
They were in the wrong, in harm's way, and should not have been there. Their father almost certainly knew what they were doing, but they were adults and responsible for their own destiny. Their mother was in Cairo with them, and did not or could not stop them from getting involved.
I hope that they go through the full process of law, with respect, and reach a successful result, but the government must at least be allowed to question their motives. Spies until proven otherwise
I just hope that this case is resolved in the short term. Nobody should go through a long period in gaol before charges are made and heard. Is there an emoticon for habeus corpus?

Re: Four Irish Siblings Detained
One of the young ladies gave a blow by blow account live on Friday night on Al Jazeera from the Mosque, then an older sister on the BBC last night. They are being given a lot of airtime by the media.
I feel that is because they are using the fact of being citizens of Ireland, I also feel that the statements they are giving is being used to demonize the Security Forces in Cairo. The sister on the BBC will have convinced the world that she will never see her family again because they are going to be killed.
Just my thought on listening to them,TB

Re: Four Irish Siblings Detained
Watched the same Al Jazeera item as Teddy Bear, they kept linking up by mobile with screaming females, and I must admit that when one of them suddenly said ( mid scream ) I'm Egyptian Irish ... I thought what the hell is all this about ?
Talk about planting people with scripts & agendas, anyone taken in by this rubbish hasn't got a brain cell !!!
There's another English based one called Mona who kept appearing on Sky on Wednesday telling us in a very demented fashion that 2500 MBs had been killed on Wednesday.
Unfortunately Foreign leaders such as William Hague have a record of believing such tales, which leads to more of these situations happening.

Anyone wants to complain to the BBC about their coverage especially from the UK as we do not see all what's on TV there.

Re: Four Irish Siblings Detained
Bombay don't you get BBCW? its the same news virtually.
I too watched the Al Jezeera News, to be honest it made me laugh, the person going on inside the mosque was like Lord Haw Haw, spewing out political propaganda in every mouthful, first there was 1000 people then there were 600 people, she was going frantic when the bullets started everyone else looked calm. She would not even let the news reader in the studio get a word or question in. The Newsreader by rights should have, either cut her off, never contacted her again while she was in the building. All she was doing was ranting.
Talking of Al Jezeera, while on my way to bed last night, the 10pm news was giving out something to do with Al Jezeera Basher Misr, and if its reporting had crossed lines, did anyone hear the full story about that, could this be the start of Al Jezzera's demise.

Being Irish, perhaps they were there to rescue the nuns mentioned below.....?

Re: Four Irish Siblings Detained
I think that these four cretins should lead by example. A one year stint inside to show them the error of their ways, deportation followed by a lifetime ban from reentering Egypt. To my mind they were there for the specific reason of wanting to add their four penny's worth to the protest. A good example of four soft punts.
