Pro-Morsi protesters victimising themselves to gain advantage: Egypt presidency.

Presidential aide for political affairs Mostafa Hegazi has accused the Islamist supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi of intentionally victimising themselves in order to gain a negotiation advantage. Hegazi's accusation comes one day after the killing of at least 72 pro-Morsi protesters following clashes between police and Morsi supporters in Cairo's Nasr City.

"The Egyptian state will never accept the shedding of Egyptian blood, regardless of political affiliations, but it also will not stand silent in the face of blackmail and terrorism of its citizens," Hegazi said in a press conference on Sunday evening. "The law will be applied firmly and intently," he added.

Several human rights organisations and political figures have decried the excessive force used by police against Morsi supporters during early Saturday's clashes.

Hegazi added that the assaults on security units in Sinai's border region, as well as those against Morsi opponents, are organised attacks.

"It is not an exaggeration to say that what is going on now is a war of terrorism against [Egyptian] society. No political disagreement can be solved with violence," Hegazi said.

Hegazi went on to affirm that the post-Morsi political roadmap – enforced by the army following its popularly-backed removal of the former president on 3 July – will not be hindered.

Supporters of former president Morsi have staged regular demonstrations across Egyptian cities following the president's ouster. Many of these protests have developed into deadly clashes with police or unknown assailants.

Morsi supporters have also maintained a sit-in at Nasr City's Rabaa Al-Adawiya mosque since 28 June. The Muslim Brotherhood, the group from which Morsi hails, has stated that it will not negotiate until Morsi is reinstated as president.

Ragab our other conscript returned to the village today sporting a head wound received from a coca cola bottle.
He's based in and around Tahir Sq, he was telling me a toilet system was dropped from a block of flats missed him but exploded showering him and his mates with porcelain.
He's a bit worried incase Sisi tries to make a bid for presidency, so back to the front line for him in 2 days time.
He also said they had taken 7 guns off of demonstrators.....

Given the photos that were posted on here on another thread the weapon of choice seems to be a chunk of brick which can cause a pretty significant wound if you're struck.

All the news media here are spouting that Egypt is on the verge of civil war. Definitely hope the situation doesn't continue to deteriorate further. Not that I have a solution but it will be absolutely awful with mega injuries if civil war does erupt. Hate to see Egypt living under a Dictator (Mubarak) but equally do not want to see them living under an inept leader who is steering towards the MB. Can't even comment on what Military rule would look like.

An astute charming charismatic leader with solid world ties in business and commerce with a political awareness would be just the ticket but where to find one of these when you need them? I recognize that is rather glib of me to put it that way but really there doesn't seem to be a solid moderate emerging leader coming forward out of the Egyptian populace.

Really hope civil war doesn't become the only choice most feel they have. Nobody wins and the ensuing destruction takes years to overcome and in some cases with some people they can never grow above the horrible life experiences they live through. Sure hope a calm equitable solution can be found.

No1. President Omar Sheriff.
No2. Vice President Adel Oman.
They know little about politics probably don't want the job, but they love Egypt and Egypt loves them, there could be no better,
any politician that wants the job will be a crook as are most politicians....
