Egypt 'coup' will push some groups to violence, says Brotherhood's Beltagy.

A senior politician in Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood said on Thursday that the military overthrow of elected Islamist President Mohamed Morsi will push other groups, though not his own, to violent resistance.

"The issue is not with Brothers being in or out of prison. The Brothers have lived in prisons for ages," Mohamed El-Beltagy, a leading member of the Brotherhood's political arm, the Freedom and Justice Party, told reporters.

"The issue now is the position of the free world that is pushing the country to a state of chaos and pushing groups other than the Brotherhood to return to the idea of change by force," he said.

Beltagy was speaking at a sit-in by Morsi supporters at a suburban Cairo mosque close to the presidential palace.

Out of curiosity are people in Egypt referring to this action by the Military as a coup? Am asking cause the word 'coup' is causing quite a bit of angst in the USA. As per their law of the land if this ousting of Morsi by the Egyptian Army is declared a coup they will be unable to provide further funding to Egypt which is in the order of a Billion plus.

Curious as to the terminology being used there??

From a Cairean friend:
To all my non Egyptian friends that are getting their news from the Western media. What is happening now in Egypt is NOT a military coup. It's the People's Revolution against a fascist, fanatic regime. 33 million Egyptians are out in the streets to kick Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood OUT once and for all. The media, especially CNN is depicting the picture that they want you to believe since the American administration supports this fanatic, terrorist government. The Egyptians have spoken with a completely free will power to change this country around. The army is by our side to protect us and protect our beloved Egypt.
Ok? ......

well put George! No-one can accuse you of being obscure in that post! It possibly worries Western governments, as their population might take to the streets to protest their policies too.

Maybe the UK could see a reemergence of the "Tooting Popular Front"

We are going to have to wait and see! We also have to wait and see how the Security Services go about securing this threat. They maybe will have Clinks bursting at the seams has they start rounding up these people that make threats.

One of the worse things you can do is record by means of video or TV what you are going to do,by doing this it leads the Security Services to your doorstep.

A coup is a coup is a coup! By any other name that's what has happened in Egypt.
A military ousting of a democratically elected leader ( for only one year) without exception, no matter what the circumstances, is against the democratic process. This can only end in civil war, as there is obviously a huge pro Morsi majority, and their voice has to be heard.

Already the heat is increasing, and I imagine that unless this coup is recognised for what it is and people's requests addressed, the frustration, anger and divisions will only be exacerbated and things turn really nasty. This is not good for the future of Egypt, and complete anarchy and terror attacks will result. What has happened is completely unacceptable, and cannot be justified. This is NOT democracy.

Already the situation is deteriorating

Well Jewel 'you bang on about humanity all the time, just how many innocent lives would have been saved if Tony Blair had been ousted when we all realised what a massive mistake we had made, we hoped for so much and ended up with a useless yankie arse-licking poodle.
Power to the People, when it's wrong and we know it's wrong and so does the Army which nearly everybody in this Country has been in, don't forget that, the Army is the Egyptian People.
The MB just pulled the wool over everybody's eyes for a bit, but will revert back to terrorising without a doubt. The Army aren't stupid...
Ps: United Kingdom Democratic ? 'spare me your stupidity.........oh! and ignorance.
Pss: I was here when those b*****ds hacked arms and legs off 62 people less than 13 years ago and that b*****d tried to place one of them as Governor of Luxor, what next he's rubbing our noses in it ? Jesus........bet he ain't laughing now!

For your edication Jewel:
Dina Fakery
As an Egyptian I would like to clarify a lot of confusion and misleading information that has been aired by the Western media about what is happening in Egypt. This is NOT A MILITARY COUP. It is a revolution by the people of Egypt to remove a fanatical regime (Muslim Brotherhood) from place. All the army did was to protect the right of Egyptians to remove a tyrannical leader/ruling party. The army is not taking over power, the rulership of Egypt in the interim (until we have a presidential elections) is handled by the head of the constitutional court. The minister of defense is not taking over power in the interim. The army has stepped forward to protect peaceful Egyptian protestors when the Muslim Brotherhood has threatened to start using force and aggression (and we had a few individual incidents over the past few days where their supporters killed unarmed peaceful protestors). This has been a revolution by the people for the people, initiated by the youth who (over the past 3 months) have managed to collect 22 million signatures of Egyptian citizens to remove the President (Tamarod which means rebel). 33 million people have taken to the streets on the 30th of June in the biggest peaceful revolution in humankind and what was the President's reaction "I will not step down even if I have to use force to remain in power". The army realized that what the President was propagating was a civil war which it could not tolerate to happen, so the army intervened at the right time to save Egypt. The Western media does not want people of the world to know the Truth so that the Egyptian revolution isn't an inspiration to other suppressed nations and would not act as a catalyst for them to take back their own power.
"So there you go don't believe all you read in your Daily Mail........

Seems that another Forum Member cannot add up (or subtract). November 1997 is more than 15 years ago, not less than 13. Several of my friends were on the West Bank of Luxor that day, and retreated to a tomb in the VotK.

Does the "********" worry you, ST? Over a million marched in London to protest Blair's war! Or don't you want us who live here to have opinions about British politics? Yet, you give yourself the right to spout your "********" about the situation here!

Who2 whatever you quote and despite what a few individuals say about it, the facts are clear, a democratically ELECTED leader was ousted buy the militia, and however you dress it up amounts to a COUP and is undemocratic and against the majority of Egyptian people.

It is economy driving the revolutions, and this won't be resolved by a coup or change of leader, this is global and will not be getting better anytime soon, some have forecast this and seen it coming for some time.

Also you can not compare Egypt to any western country which have had democracy for many years, you quote a Dina fakery as saying the army is protecting the Egyptian people, so what about the majority of the people who want MB and Morsi to be reinstated? What about their rights? However you justify what has happened you can not deny that it has been a coup.

Just look at the history of the Egyptian army to find the answers. After 1948 and backed by money from US it became an economic institution, capitalist.
Equipped with valuable and vast real estate and a conscript, low-paid workforce, the military began to insinuate itself into civil society through business, its holdings ranging from bread factories to chemical plants to hotels
Remember after Mubaraks ousting when public opinion turned against the military government, the army then recognised the fickle nature of the Egyptian voters, and ensured that its powers were cemented in the new constitution.
One must question then, are the Egyptian army acting out of "patriotism" or self interest?
Only time will tell....................

I suppose when you live here you see more that is properly going on and not have to rely on in some cases hyped media reports. People have gradually got more and more dismayed at what has been happening, these are things you do not see living in the UK.

It was inevitable some sort of happening would materialise, and it has! Now the people have to live with it.

For myself, I really try not to get involved with Egyptian Politics and take what is given me, but I have to admit the mood in Luxor, especially on the WB has lifted, be it they agree with what's happened or they don't.

Regarding what posters put on here, the only coup that has happened in Luxor is the one Ahmed bought for his chickens yesterday.

I would of thought that the only things lifting on the West bank lately would be the thousands of pair's of eyes as they watched the smoke rise from all the burning Christian homes. Tip of the day. The computer shop on Television street sells replacement astrix keys for 10Le.
