Visiting Luxor on my own

Perhaps I am fortunate but I met my "driver" on my very first visit and I have since always used him and his family - and the relationships progressed to friendships - I feel very uncomfortable thinking of them as 'drivers" - they are friends who I respect provide a service. Our subsequent journeys have not been a case of hiring a driver - its been taking a road trip with friends - we stay together - eat together and share all the good, bad and totally absurd things that happen en route. When not travelling we would often socialise together.

I'm pleased to say that I have Egyptian friends like that too. I just find it hard doing' business' with friends so try to find an appropriate and mutually convenient compromise in it all.

I agree. My driver will never give a price for any of our escapades, but only asks that I pay what I think the service is worth. I can only judge by his reaction, usually several months later, if I have been particularly mean. I can never tell if I was over-generous. The only time when he gave me a price was at our first meeting in 2006.

But my friends have used my driver and insisted on a quote up front. They have been very well pleased with the quote and the service.

I have used him and been more than happy with his service and intend using him again in January when I will actually be staying on the WB.
