Great paintings, I liked the owl one. When I was a kid, an uncle who had an oval plaster stuck on his eye, it was pecked out or something when he was taking a photo of an owl, I found it odd, but funny, he was well known I found out, years later, On the other hand my other uncle I thought was norman wisdom, because he was funny and called Norman, life was simpler then. The oval plaster was always dirty, I gave him a patch once, never wore it, it had the scull & X-Bones on it, no humor....
PS: Mind you, one aunt a flew a plane and she only had one lung, my barber had no thumb....la whaala!

The owl looks like a kid drew it, The falcon is very good though

It's a copy of a heiroglyph, not a study from life like the falcon. It looks exactly like a photo I took at the White Chapel in Karnak.

Didn't Carter originally go to Egypt as an artist when he was quite young?

Hmm, the Falcon is very good, but the others just look like slightly embellished Ancient Egyptian art...

True - he worked under Flinders Petrie, where he gained most of his archaeological training, but was employed as a tracer, thanks to his draughtsmanship, learnt from his father. His first tasks were to copy the inscriptions at Beni Hasan. But as an artist in his own right, he was not too successful - this painting was sold for about £2000 in 2008 - probably more for his name than its artistic merit!
