Presidential candidate Amr Moussa was campaigning in Luxor yesterday and, according to Egypt Independent, pledged "to turn Egypt into a center for international tourism through restoring political stability and security, restructuring the Supreme Council for Tourism, and developing laws and regulations on all aspects of tourism".

The report also says: "We will not invent new policies," [...] We will rather work on reforming what the former ruler has destroyed because the homeland is injured."

MENA quoted the former foreign minister and Arab League chief as saying, "We will vanquish our defeat and rebuild our country… I plan, if elected, to establish a real system, not a farcical one, because the country was moving forward seriously, then deviated from the right path."

I wonder if his main rival's supporters were trying to get ahead of Mr Moussa ... posters for Abdel Moneim Abouel Fotouh have been appearing in increasing numbers.

I wonder if that could have had anything to do with the noisy demonstration which passed down Mustafa Kamel Street last night? There were a good number of men, with banners, repeating a chant as they went, the only word of which I caught was: 'EEZ-RY-EEL'. I'll ask my neighbours today.

The Ahram Online report of Mr Moussa's visit contained one intriguing sentence:

After arriving at Luxor Airport one day earlier, Moussa held a campaign rally at the village of Al-Qarna, where he told attendees about his development plans for Upper Egypt, a main component of which is the achievement of agricultural self-sufficiency.

I wonder what the details are...
